Walk-in Wardrobes in Upper Holloway
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Upper Holloway, each designed at a visit to your home.
- A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
- Separate space for two people’s clothes
- Storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe
Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
Walk-in wardrobes in Upper Holloway
You don’t need a spare room to have a walk-in wardrobe. A corner or one end of a large bedroom can become a dressing area, with doors or left open. Any new partition wall is for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. Most enquiries start with a use for a small spare room and room for two wardrobes in one space, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Upper Holloway, lots of bedrooms have solid brick external walls. Cold external walls can lead to condensation, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture is part of the design. Smaller back bedrooms in houses of that age are good places for walk-in wardrobes.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the measuring visit.
Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Upper Holloway
I live near Upper Holloway station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Islington and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Upper Holloway?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?
Yes, if there is enough space. One end or a corner can be set aside with a run of units, with doors or left open. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
Getting it in is planned during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
How much time does fitting need?
Every room is different. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
How fitting day works
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.
- We start with the room you have in mind and what needs a home. It could be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom.
- At the design visit we measure the room and talk through hanging, shelves and drawers, with shoe storage and a dressing table if you’d like them.
- We send a quote that sets out the layout, materials and finish.
- The units are made in our workshop.
- We bring everything to your home and fit it to the room.
How to prepare
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
How to get a quote
A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.

Bedrooms in Upper Holloway: local notes
About 59% of the homes in the area around Upper Holloway went up before 1919, and about 16% between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 14 entries within half a mile of the centre of Upper Holloway. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. All of London, Islington included, is inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Upper Holloway fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We go through parking and access at the design visit.
If your children go to St John's Upper Holloway CofE Primary School or a school nearby, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Cromwell House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Upper Holloway
Some want somewhere to sit and get ready. We can design a dressing table into the room, close to the clothes and shoes.
Some of the things we’re asked to solve include:
- A built-in dressing table
- A side each for a couple
- Moving wardrobes out of the bedroom
- Storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe
If you live near Whittington Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.
Choosing a carpenter
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Real projects you can actually look at
Is bespoke worth it?
Modular units are made in fixed sizes, so the space above and at the ends is often wasted. We can build right up to the ceiling and from wall to wall, which can add a lot of storage. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings, with panels and details to suit the house.
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
