Ask about walk-in wardrobes in Nag's Head

Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Nag's Head?

Sharing one wardrobe between two rarely works for long. A walk-in wardrobe can be planned with a side for each, so neither of you is squeezed.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • Separate space for two people’s clothes
  • A calmer, clearer bedroom
  • Long and double hanging planned around your clothes
  • A built-in dressing table

The wider area includes historic houses such as Witanhurst, about 1.7 miles north-west. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

What to check before you book

  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

About our walk-in wardrobes in Nag's Head

Some people want doors on everything; others like open shelves and rails. Doors give a tidy, finished look and help keep dust away, and open rails make it quick to find things. The choice is yours, and we will go through it when we measure. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are room for two wardrobes in one space and a built-in dressing table.

Older bedrooms typically have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of homes around Nag's Head are that old. That height can be used, with fitted furniture taken up to the cornice and top cupboards for occasional things. Original mouldings are worked around rather than removed, so the furniture suits the house.

We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

Looking after your furniture

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Think about where shoes and bags will go
  • Keep the room ventilated
  • Consider a mix of doors and open shelves
  • Have damp sorted before fitting

If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can be touched in. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth.

Before the design visit, sort through your clothes. The amount of long hanging, double hanging, shelving and shoe storage depends on what you own, so a clear-out first gives a better design.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Nag's Head

My home in Nag's Head is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

My home in Nag's Head is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?

In many homes, yes. A box room can take hanging, shelves and drawers on its walls, while leaving space to stand and turn. We’ll measure and plan it at the measuring visit.

How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

What happens on fitting day

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized to get through. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out.

  1. To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.

Preparing the room

  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the measuring visit.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
