Walk-in wardrobes in Farringdon
A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about somewhere to sit and get ready and a bedroom without crowded wardrobes.
In a flat, a spare bedroom often doubles as a study or a guest room, so fitted furniture that keeps things out of sight helps it switch between them. Purpose-built flats are home to most households around Farringdon. We plan the space in front so every door and drawer opens fully.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How fitting day works
You won’t need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the measuring visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. With little room to spare in a flat, pieces come in as they’re needed. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Fixings are chosen for each wall, solid or plasterboard.
- You tell us about the room.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
- A written quote follows.
- The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the units and trim the edges to meet the walls and ceiling.
- We check everything with you, and fresh paint should be treated gently at first.
Before fitting day
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
Arranging a design visit
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form.

Walk-in wardrobes in Farringdon: local notes
Homes built since 2000 make up about 32% of the housing in the streets around Farringdon, with about 28% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Farringdon include Priory Church of St John of Jerusalem (Grade I), under half a mile north, and The Charterhouse (Grade I), under half a mile east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 32% of homes in the area around Farringdon were built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Newer homes often have compact bedrooms with plasterboard stud walls, so fitted furniture is fixed to suit the board.
For a flat near Farringdon station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. The wider area includes historic houses such as Dr Johnson's House, about 0.4 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.
Farringdon is about 2 miles north of Highbury, part of the London Borough of Islington. We design and make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Farringdon and across Islington, as part of our work in every London borough. We cover places right across Islington.
We make walk-in wardrobes across EC1V, EC1R and EC1P for walk-in wardrobes. If your home is on a street such as Oat Lane, Shoe Lane and Long Lane, or close by, we can visit to measure up for walk-in wardrobes. Farringdon sits close to the A1 and A4. Close by, we also work in Smithfield (1 mile south), Clerkenwell (1 mile north), Holborn (1 mile west), Blackfriars (1 mile south) and Temple Bar (1 mile south-west). We also make walk-in wardrobes in nearby places such as Highbury (2 miles north), Canonbury (2 miles north-east), Barnsbury (2 miles north), Holloway (3 miles north), Mildmay (2 miles north-east) and Upper Holloway (3 miles north). Farringdon is among the bigger places we cover in Islington.

Why people ask for walk-in wardrobes in Farringdon
The most common reason is simply running out of wardrobe space. Rails are crammed, shelves overflow and shoes end up under the bed. A walk-in wardrobe gives everything room.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts
- Storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe
- A calmer, clearer bedroom
- A dressing area in part of a bedroom
For an older house near St John Clerkenwell, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
What to check before you book
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Whether you will get a written quote, not just a figure
Flats, leases and landlords
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising at the design visit.
Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Farringdon
Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:
- Parking near your home
- How big the furniture is
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Doors and drawers, and how many
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It’s useful to talk about parking during the design visit, so we can plan for it.
What to send when you get in touch
What helps most when you first contact us:
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- How you want to use the space
It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, send us a few details through our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.
Boards, parts and paint
Birch plywood
Shelves that carry piles of clothes need a strong board, and birch plywood suits them.
Hanging rails
Long hanging is kept for coats and dresses, and the rest can be double hung.
Questions we are often asked
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Farringdon?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
I live in a flat in Farringdon. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Walk-in wardrobes are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?
Either works. Doors keep dust off and give a calm, finished look, and open storage makes things quick to find. A mix of the two is common.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
