Woodford Walk-in Wardrobes

In Woodford, we design walk-in wardrobes around the room you actually have. We design your walk-in wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Room for two wardrobes in one space
  • Somewhere for shoes to live
  • A dressing area in part of a bedroom

Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Woodford

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Woodford

Most designs start with the hanging. Full-length hanging takes coats, dresses and long garments, while double hanging, one rail above another, fits shirts and jackets into half the height. The balance of long and double hanging is based on your clothes. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are somewhere to sit and get ready and a calmer, clearer bedroom.

A loft conversion is a common way to add a bedroom to a semi or an interwar house, and the slope can take storage cut to its angle. Around Woodford, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. We work in lofts that are already converted, with each piece scribed to the slope and set level.

The furniture is made at our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Woodford?

Some people want a calmer bedroom. Moving clothes into a separate space leaves the bedroom simpler and quieter to look at.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • Long and double hanging planned around your clothes
  • Somewhere for shoes to live
  • Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
  • Separate space for two people’s clothes

The wider area includes historic houses like Valentines Mansion, about 2.7 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • How parking will work on your street
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?

Why bespoke in Woodford?

Standard systems come in set widths and heights and rarely reach the ceiling. A bespoke design can run to the ceiling and fill the walls, so very little space goes to waste. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors are not perfectly true, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Flats, conversions and lettings

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

Bedroom storage in Woodford

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Woodford were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 33%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 24%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Woodford include Hurst House (Grade II*), less than half a mile west, and South Lodge of Harts Hospital (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can need listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Redbridge included. Vans bringing furniture to Woodford fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We go through parking and access during the design visit.

For a family home near Woodbridge High School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Close to The Highams Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window.

Questions we are often asked

I live near Highams Park station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Redbridge and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Woodford?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The size of the room, the layout and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?

Yes, where the room is large enough. One end or a corner can be set aside with a run of units, with doors or left open. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

What it is made from

Birch plywood

Shelves that carry piles of clothes need a strong board, and birch plywood suits them.

Moisture-resistant MDF

We use moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, giving a smooth finish.

How fitting day works

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and what you want to store.
  2. We come to measure the room and go through how the space should work, with shoe storage and a dressing table if you’d like them.
  3. A quote in writing follows, covering the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. We build the carcasses, drawers and shelves in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Getting a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
