How we make walk-in wardrobes for Gants Hill

Many London homes have a small room that is tricky as a bedroom. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe and long and double hanging planned around your clothes.

Bedrooms in interwar houses often have a picture rail but a plainer ceiling than a Victorian room, so fitted furniture can often run neatly to the ceiling. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Gants Hill, high cupboards make a good home for suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

How it is made

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and shelves. The edge can be left on show or painted.

Moisture-resistant MDF

Painted MDF doors look crisp and suit a calm, simple look.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Gants Hill

Is Gants Hill in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?

Yes, we work across Redbridge, Gants Hill included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Ilford station?

Yes. We cover all of Redbridge and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do pictures help?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.

How long does fitting take?

It depends on the room. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?

Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. The design allows air to circulate and walls should be dry before we fit.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot advise on your lease.

Looking after your furniture

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Count your coats and long garments
  • Line up your electrician for any new lights
  • Plan shoe storage around what you own
  • Decide on doors or open storage before we measure

New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.

If the room is on an external wall, have any damp sorted first. External walls can be colder and damper, so we allow for ventilation.

From workshop to your room

You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the design visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It is useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. We come to measure and discuss the design.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
  6. We check everything with you, and fresh paint should be treated gently at first.

Getting ready for fitting day
