Walk-in wardrobes for homes in World's End

Ventilation matters in a room full of clothes, especially on an external wall, which can be colder than internal walls. Good ventilation helps avoid condensation and mould, and we design the units to allow for it. Most enquiries start with separate space for two people’s clothes and the right mix of long and short hanging, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms typically have a chimney breast on one wall and a recess either side. That layout is worth knowing around World's End, where a large share of homes were built before 1919. Fitted furniture can fill both recesses and bridge the chimney breast with high cupboards, leaving the breast itself clear. The flue behind is kept ventilated, and any damp is sorted first.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the design visit.

Bedroom storage in World's End

In the streets around World's End, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 59%) and the years since 2000 (about 17%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of World's End, Historic England’s list includes Chelsea Old Church (all Saints) (Grade I), under half a mile east, and Stanley House (Grade II*), under half a mile west. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 59% of homes in the streets around World's End were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. A small spare room in an older house can make a good dressing room.

For an older house near St John's Church Centre, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. For families living near Ashburnham Community School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Living in a block of flats near Imperial Wharf station? Then the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

World's End is in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, about 2 miles north-west of Kensington. Whether your home in World's End is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. World's End is one of 13 places on our list for Kensington and Chelsea.

Every home in SW10, SW6 and SW3 is covered for walk-in wardrobes, from the main roads to the quieter streets. You will find streets here like Ann Lane, Lots Road and Avalon Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for walk-in wardrobes. Other places close to World's End include Little Chelsea (1 mile north), Chelsea Harbour (1 mile south), Walham Green (1 mile south-west), Sands End (1 mile south) and South Kensington (1 mile north). Flat-pack or bespoke?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in World's End?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in World's End?

Yes, we work across Kensington and Chelsea, World's End included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details.

How much time does fitting need?

It depends on the room. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

Should I send pictures?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

Before and after fitting day

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Talk to your electrician early about lighting
  • Leave room for air behind hanging clothes
  • Consider a mix of doors and open shelves
  • Make sure walls are dry before units go in

Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Go easy on painted surfaces at first and avoid harsh cleaners.

Talk to your electrician early about lighting. New lights and wiring are for them, and it is easier to plan the units around it from the start.

What happens on fitting day

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through.

  1. We start with the room you have in mind and what needs a home.
  2. We visit, measure up and plan the layout with you, with shoe storage and a dressing table if you’d like them.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the layout, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. The units are made at our workshop.
  5. We bring everything to your home and fit it to the room. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Preparing the room

Arranging a design visit

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, particularly with rough measurements. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
