Walk-in wardrobes in West Brompton: walk-in wardrobes and dressing rooms. We visit to measure and discuss the design, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it.

  • A calmer, clearer bedroom
  • Long and double hanging planned around your clothes

Looking after your furniture

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Here are our suggestions:

  • Think about long versus double hanging
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Know what you will keep before planning
  • Count your shoes before the design visit

Store heavy things on lower shelves and spread the weight along the rails. It helps the shelves and rails stay straight.

Plan any lighting with your electrician in good time. New lights and wiring are for them, and it’s easier to plan the units around it from the start.

Walk-in wardrobes in West Brompton

Ventilation matters in a room full of clothes, particularly where it sits against a cooler external wall. Moving air helps keep clothes fresh and stops damp building up, and we design the units to allow for it. If you’re living with a side each for a couple and a walk-in wardrobe in a box room, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Older London houses often have sash windows, and their position, along with any shutters, affects where furniture can go. If your home is one of the many around West Brompton built before 1919, the layout lets the sash open fully and keeps the light unblocked. Doors are chosen and hung so they clear the bed, the radiator and the door to the room.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

Fitted bedroom furniture in West Brompton

Homes built before 1919 make up about 70% of the housing in the streets around West Brompton, with about 12% built between 1973 and 1999, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The National Heritage List has 83 entries within half a mile of the centre of West Brompton. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. More than half of the homes in the neighbourhood around West Brompton (about 70%) were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses of that age often have a small back bedroom or box room that can become a walk-in wardrobe.

If you live near Gwendwr Garden, walk-in wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. Near listed buildings like Church of St Cuthbert and St Matthias, less than half a mile north-west of the centre of West Brompton, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For a family home near St Cuthbert with St Matthias CofE Primary School, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.

How fitting day works

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You contact us about a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room.
  2. We visit to plan the room and measure the way in, including stairs, landings and doorways. It is useful to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
  5. The units are brought in, assembled and set level. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

What affects the price in West Brompton

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Parking near your home
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, get in touch through our contact form.

What to send when you contact us

Some details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • How you want to use the space

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a written quote. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Questions from West Brompton

My home in West Brompton is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in West Brompton?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.

How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we quote once we have measured. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?

Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. The design allows air to circulate and walls should be dry before we fit.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

If you’re likely to move soon, standalone furniture you can take with you may suit better. It’s worth thinking about how long you plan to stay before you decide. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it cannot tip, and in an older house that can mean fixing into brick or lath and plaster. With fitted pieces, the fixings are planned for the wall from the start.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
