Walk-in wardrobes in Walham Green
About our walk-in wardrobes in Walham Green
A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. If your home has turning a box room into a dressing room and proper shoe storage, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Older London houses often have sash windows, and their position, along with any shutters, affects where furniture can go. For one of the older homes that make up a large share of the housing around Walham Green, we plan the layout so the window opens fully and the light still comes in. Doors on fitted pieces are hung to clear the bed and any radiator.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Neither choice is right for every home. For a simple space, off-the-shelf can do the job. For tricky rooms, period homes or a built-in look, a bespoke design tends to earn its place. Recesses in older houses come in every size except the standard ones, so ready-made units rarely fill them properly. Furniture made for the space fills it.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.
Why us?
- Made for your room, not a standard size
- Saturday work by prior arrangement
- A design visit, then a written quote
- Workshop-made and fitted by us

Looking after your furniture
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Wipe painted surfaces with a soft, damp cloth
- Keep the room ventilated
- Know what you’ll keep before planning
- Plan lighting with your electrician
Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.
Talk to your electrician early about lighting. New lights and wiring are for them, and it’s easier to plan the units around it from the start.
Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Walham Green
Does a conservation area in or near Walham Green affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
My house in Walham Green is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?
Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
It’s made in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.
Will you wire in lights?
No, that is electrical work for your electrician. We make and fit the furniture and plan space for the lighting you want.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough sizes. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Walham Green
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Walham Green were built before 1919 (about 54%) and since 2000 (about 21%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Walham Green is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. Where a home in Walham Green is on or beside a main road, it’s useful to mention that at the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
If you live near William Parnell Park, walk-in wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. For an older house near Church of St John, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Carlyle's House, about 1 mile north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes
Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:
- The width and height of the space
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
Getting in touch
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.
When is bespoke worth it?
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, especially in a controlled parking zone, so it helps to tell us during the design visit what’s outside. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.
- First, you let us know about the space and how you dress. It could be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom.
- We come to measure the room and go through how the space should work.
- We send a quote that sets out the layout, materials and finish, for you to read through.
- Everything is made and finished in our workshop.
- We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.
How to prepare
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
How to get a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.
