Your questions about bespoke kitchens in World's End

I live in a flat in World's End. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in World's End?

Yes, World's End is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Kensington and Chelsea and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and a written quote follows.

How are bespoke kitchens priced?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not typically. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

Bespoke kitchens in World's End

A dresser brings a traditional feel to a kitchen, and it suits many period homes. We make dressers to fit the wall they stand against, scribed to follow it and painted to suit the room. We make kitchens from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are cabinets built around the appliances you choose and a kitchen that fits an uneven room.

Older homes normally have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around World's End date from then. Kitchen cabinets can go higher, with tall larders and top cupboards for occasional things. Moisture-resistant MDF suits a kitchen, and the paint finish is agreed in your quote.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

How we price bespoke kitchens

Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.

Before the design visit

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

Fitting day, step by step

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the room.
  2. We visit to plan the layout and check how the cabinets will get into the room. Let us know about parking too, as a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Let us know about parking near your home

Made-to-measure kitchens in World's End

About 59% of the homes in the neighbourhood around World's End went up before 1919, and about 17% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. The National Heritage List has 118 entries within half a mile of the centre of World's End. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 24% of households in the neighbourhood around World's End, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it is worth checking yours first.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Chelsea Old Church (all Saints), original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For families living near Ashburnham Community School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer. If your home is one of the older houses near St John's Church Centre, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Doors and drawer fronts

Painted doors can be refreshed later if you change the colour scheme.

Moisture-resistant MDF

A painted MDF door looks crisp and even, in a kitchen as anywhere.

Honest limits

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
  • New sockets or circuits

Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can message us from the contact page and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

What goes into it

  • Larders and dressers
  • Islands where space allows
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood

Flats, leases and landlords

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.
