About our wall beds in Brentford End

Not every mattress suits every wall bed; the mechanism maker sets the size, depth and weight it can take. We will talk through what suits the bed at the design visit, so the mattress you choose fits. Typical reasons to get in touch are a living room with a bed that folds away and a bed that fills a little-used room, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Brentford End, bedrooms are often straightforward shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. Where a loft conversion has been added, the sloping ceiling can take storage too.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface.

Birch plywood

We use birch plywood where strength matters, which matters for the parts that carry the bed. The edge can be left on show or painted.

Your questions about wall beds in Brentford End

Is parking a problem for fitting in Brentford End?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can you make wall beds for a home in Brentford End?

Yes, we work across Hounslow, Brentford End included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details.

Can a wall bed go on any wall?

That depends on what the wall and floor are made of. The mechanism must be fixed to a sound wall or floor, as its maker specifies, and we look at this when we measure.

How long will the wall bed take to fit?

Every room is different. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you’ll know before we start.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

It’s made in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the measuring visit.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

How fitting day works

In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are usually straightforward, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Wall beds arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and how often the bed is used.
  2. We visit, measure up and check the wall the bed will fix to.
  3. We send a quote setting out the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
  4. The bed cabinet and any shelves or desk are made in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies. The finish is sprayed in our workshop or painted by hand on site.

What wall beds can’t fix

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Wiring for lights or chargers
  • Supplying mattresses
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How it works.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Is it time for wall beds?

Most people come to us with a guest room that sits empty most of the year. A standard bed takes up the floor all the time, and folding it away gives the room a second life.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • A flexible room for a growing family
  • A living room with a bed that folds away
  • A study that doubles as a spare room
  • A guest bed that disappears in the day

Syon House, about 0.5 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.
