Wall beds for homes in Spring Grove
Many spare rooms are only just big enough for a bed, and the bed fills the room even when no one is staying. A wall bed gives that floor back during the day for a desk, a hobby or just space. Guests still get a proper bed when they stay. People typically come to us about a proper bed instead of a sofa bed and hiding the bed when it’s not in use, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Around Spring Grove, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the box room over the stairs is a classic spot for fitted furniture. The main bedroom may have a bay at the front and a chimney breast on the side wall.
Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

How fitting day works
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are usually straightforward, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it’s going, with floors protected throughout.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room and the wall where the bed could go.
- We visit to measure up, look at the wall and floor and make sure there’s clear space in front to lower the bed.
- A written quote follows, covering the cabinet, the materials and the finish.
- The bed housing and any shelves or desk are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinet goes in, the mechanism is fixed securely and the bed is tried out.
- Before we leave we show you how to lower and lift the bed.
Before fitting day
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Advice
Your questions about wall beds in Spring Grove
Is parking a problem for fitting in Spring Grove?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.
Can you make wall beds for a home in Spring Grove?
Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London, and Spring Grove is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.
Can you fit a wall bed to a stud wall?
It depends on the wall and floor. The mechanism must be fixed to a sound wall or floor, as its maker specifies, so we check it at the measuring visit.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Is bespoke worth it?
If you may move soon, a standalone bed you can take with you could suit you better. It’s worth thinking about how long you plan to stay before you decide. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so it can be planned.

Spring Grove homes and wall beds
About 34% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Spring Grove went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 24% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Within a mile of the centre of Spring Grove, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.

Pricing wall beds in Spring Grove
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- The overall size of the piece
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
