Wall beds for your home in Penge
About our wall beds in Penge
We fit wall beds in Penge and across London. It starts with a design visit to measure the room and check the wall, then a written quote. We make everything in our workshop and fit it in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you’ll know in advance. Typical reasons to get in touch are a proper bed instead of a sofa bed and a spare room that’s rarely slept in; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of homes around Penge are that old. Fitted furniture can run right up to the ceiling or the cornice, with high storage for the things you use least. Picture rails, skirting boards and coving are met neatly or cut around, so the furniture suits the house.
Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Why people ask for wall beds in Penge
Studio flats and small one-bedroom flats are another reason. A bed that folds up gives you a living room in the day and a bedroom at night.
Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:
- A bed that looks like cupboards by day
- A storage wall with a bed inside
- A studio that works by day and night
- A real mattress for visitors
Kingswood House, about 1.4 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?

Your questions about wall beds in Penge
My house in Penge is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
I live near Penge West station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
How much space does a wall bed need?
That comes down to the size of the bed. At the design visit we measure the room and check there’s enough space in front.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
How long does fitting take?
It depends on the design. The time the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
Can you fit a wall bed to a stud wall?
It depends on the wall and floor. The mechanism must be fixed to a sound wall or floor, as its maker specifies, and we look at this when we measure.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Where other trades come in
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:
- New sockets, lighting or wiring (your electrician)
- Structural work to the wall or floor
- Making good the walls after other work

Fitting day, step by step
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.
- First, you let us know about the space. Mention who the bed is for.
- The design visit covers measuring, the wall and the layout.
- You receive a written quote.
- Everything is made at our workshop.
- The wall bed is fitted in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies.
How to prepare
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
Getting a quote
Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.
