Fitted home offices designed for your room
Fitted home offices in Finsbury Park: what you get
An alcove beside a chimney breast can take a neat desk with shelves above. The desk and shelves are scribed to the alcove, as period walls are seldom flat. The opposite alcove can carry shelves or a cupboard to match. It gives a home in Finsbury Park a workspace that looks part of the room. If your home has a desk buried under papers and a spare room that has to be an office and a guest room, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.
Older homes tend to have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of homes around Finsbury Park are that age. Shelving can go up high above the desk, with the top shelves for things you rarely need. Some internal walls in older houses are lath and plaster, so fixings are chosen to suit, and long shelves are sized so they do not sag.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the home office we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Questions from Finsbury Park
Is parking a problem for fitting in Finsbury Park?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Is Finsbury Park in the area you cover for fitted home offices?
Yes. Finsbury Park is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Haringey and London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations. Check your lease, as we can’t advise on it.
Can a home office go in a loft room?
Yes, where the loft has already been converted. We place the desk so you can sit and stand without hitting the slope, and the low space under the slope can hold storage. The conversion itself isn’t our work.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.
How long will the home office fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The office is made at our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We keep the room as tidy as possible while we work.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
Is it time for fitted home offices?
Keeping work in its own space is a common wish. A desk with doors, or an office in a spare room, lets you close the door on work. It makes the house feel like home again in the evening.
A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:
- An alcove or landing that could take a desk
- Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
- Shelves that sag under books and files
- Wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day
Witanhurst, about 2.1 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.
Choosing a carpenter
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
- Will the doors close with even gaps?

Fitted home offices for homes in Finsbury Park
Homes built before 1919 make up about 53% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Finsbury Park, with about 20% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. 6 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Finsbury Park. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Haringey are set locally. Where a street in Finsbury Park is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. Tell us what the parking is like at the design visit.
If your children go to Stroud Green Primary School or a school nearby, a desk with shelves and closed storage can serve both work and homework. For an older house near St John the Evangelist, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Standard shelving can sag under the weight of books and files. Span, depth and load all matter. We size the shelves for what they’ll carry, using birch plywood where strength is needed. Chimney breasts in older houses stand out by different amounts, so the recesses either side are rarely the same, and standard units bought as a pair rarely suit both. Fitted furniture is made to each one separately.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.

Fitting day, step by step
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

What affects the cost of fitted home offices
To work out the quote, we look at:
- The overall size of the piece
- Parking near your home
- The internal fittings
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit, then set it out in the quote.
Before the design visit
You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It’s enough to send:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Examples of the look you are after
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough measurements. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
