Questions from Finsbury Park

Do you make loft storage for homes in Finsbury Park?

Yes, we work across Haringey, Finsbury Park included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Finsbury Park station?

Yes, homes across Haringey and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

It’s something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so it sits tight to the room.

What happens during the design visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

What materials do you use for loft storage?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the carcasses and drawers, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.

How we make loft storage for Finsbury Park

Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. A wardrobe under the slope, knee-wall drawers and dormer shelves make a complete set. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. We design them around what you need to store in Finsbury Park. Typical reasons to get in touch are a dormer that isn’t being used and a loft room that still feels unfinished; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

A Victorian or Edwardian terrace normally has a long, narrow hall leading to the stairs. Around Finsbury Park, a large share of homes date from before 1919, so depth matters as much as width wherever storage goes. Even shallow storage can hold a lot without narrowing the way through.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

How fitting day works

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it helps to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. It starts when you contact us about storage in your loft, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill, with the doors and drawers checked with you.

Before fitting day

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

How to get a quote

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough sizes. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

How we price loft storage

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Parking and unloading on your street

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit.

Before the design visit

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Where you live, with the postcode

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.

Tips worth knowing

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured
  • Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
  • Mention any parking rules on your street
  • Check the route up to the loft

When we’ve finished fitting, the cupboards and drawers are ready. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. Avoid sticky tape, heavy knocks and harsh cleaners while it hardens.

Sharp edges and heavy boxes can chip a painted edge. Store tools in a box, not loose against the doors. A small chip on a hand-painted finish is easy to touch in.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standalone furniture can move with you, and it may suit a short stay. Fitted storage stays with the house, and it uses the slopes in a way a standalone piece can’t. Which suits you depends on your plans. Ready-made tall pieces have to be fixed to the wall for safety, and in an older house that can mean fixing into brick or lath and plaster. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.

There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.

Fitted storage in Finsbury Park

Homes built before 1919 make up about 53% of the housing in the streets around Finsbury Park, with about 20% built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Within a mile of the centre of Finsbury Park, 6 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Haringey has its own. If your road in Finsbury Park falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. We ask about parking at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

If your children go to Stroud Green Primary School or a school nearby, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Engine House of Metropolitan Water Board, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. Witanhurst, about 2.1 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
