What prompts wall beds in Hampton Hill

Plenty of spare rooms have become home offices. People want a desk by day and a bed for visitors, and a wall bed makes that possible.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • A bed that looks like cupboards by day
  • A spare room that is rarely slept in
  • Storage built around a fold-down bed
  • A studio that works by day and night

Living in a block of flats near Fulwell station? Then wall beds are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?

Wall beds in Hampton Hill

A wall bed, sometimes called a Murphy bed, lifts up into a cabinet during the day and comes down when it’s time to sleep. It means a room can work as more than a bedroom, such as a spare room that’s also a study. We make the cabinet for your room and finish it to match. If you are living with a living room with a bed that folds away and a home office that also sleeps guests, that’s what wall beds are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Wherever your home in Hampton Hill sits in London’s mix of housing, the furniture starts from your room, not a standard size. On an external wall, ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps keep condensation away. The inside layout is planned around what you actually store.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Bespoke wall beds or ready-made?

A standard bed is simple and needs no mechanism, which is a fair point in its favour. Where the room needs to be more than a bedroom, a wall bed earns its place day after day. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in set sizes, and real rooms rarely match them, so it leaves gaps at the ends and empty space above. Fitted furniture is made to the room.

We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Why us?

Bedrooms in Hampton Hill: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Hampton Hill were built before 1919 (about 41%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 21%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for wall beds, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Hampton Hill, Historic England’s list includes Templeton Lodge (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east, and Upper Lodge (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling may need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home in Hampton Hill is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. We will plan where the van can stop.

Close to Carlisle Park? Wall beds are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. For families living near Hampton Hill Junior School, the inside of wall beds can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Your questions about wall beds in Hampton Hill

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Hampton Hill?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Fulwell station?

Yes. We cover all of Richmond upon Thames and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. You can send them when you tell us about the room on our contact form.

How much time does fitting need?

Every room is different. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not typically. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

How fitting day works

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including anything on the walls near the work. We cover floors and doorways first. Sections are then carried in and assembled.

  1. You tell us about the room and who the bed is for.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and check the wall and floor.
  3. We send a quote in writing for the bed cabinet and storage, ready to check.
  4. The bed housing and any shelves are built in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the cabinet is fitted and the bed checked as it lowers and lifts. We show you how the bed works before we leave.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance

Starting with a design visit

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.
