Wall beds for homes in Twickenham

We fit wall beds in Twickenham and across London. First comes a design visit, where we measure and look at the wall, followed by a quote. We make everything in our workshop and fit it in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you’ll know in advance. People typically come to us about a flexible room for a growing family and a guest bed that disappears in the day, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Wherever your home in Twickenham sits in London’s mix of housing, wall beds are designed for the room as it is. External walls can be colder than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation. Shelves, drawers and any hanging are arranged around your things.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

What happens on fitting day

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and your quote sets out the fitting days. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so tell us what applies during the design visit. For a flat, building rules on lifts and working hours are worth checking.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and the wall where the bed could go.
  2. We visit to measure up, look at the wall and floor and make sure there’s clear space in front to lower the bed.
  3. You receive a written quote for the wall bed and any storage.
  4. The bed housing and any shelves or desk are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinet in your home and fix the mechanism as its maker specifies.
  6. We go through the bed with you; the cabinet has the spray-painted or hand-painted finish you chose.

How to prepare

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Getting a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Advice

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

Pricing wall beds in Twickenham

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • How square the room is
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • The overall size of the piece

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Getting in touch

Ahead of the design visit, we will usually ask about:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Where you live, with the postcode

A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you’re ready, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a written quote.

Tips worth knowing

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:

  • Look at your lease before fixing to the walls
  • Check there’s room for the bed to fold down
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Keep the floor in front clear before lowering the bed

Whether bedding can stay on the bed when it folds up depends on the mechanism. We can build a cupboard beside the bed for extra bedding.

Consider how often the bed will be used and by whom. It shapes the bed size and the type of mechanism, and whether a desk or shelves go around it.

Yes, we work across Richmond upon Thames, Twickenham included, and across the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

How long will the wall bed take to fit?

The time the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

How are wall beds priced?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The bed size, the cabinet and any storage around it all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

How much room do I need in front of a wall bed?

The bed needs room in front of it to come down, as well as the depth of the cabinet itself. We measure this at the design visit and plan the layout around it.

Bedroom storage in Twickenham

About 39% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Twickenham went up before 1919, and about 29% between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The Hamilton Road Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Twickenham. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If you live on or close to a main road in Twickenham, let us know during the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If you live near Marble Hill Park, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. Near listed buildings like Church of All Hallows, about 0.5 miles north-east of the centre of Twickenham, older homes may keep original joinery that wall beds can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. For a flat near Twickenham station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.
