Pinner Green Wall Beds

In Pinner Green, we design wall beds around the room you actually have. We design your wall bed at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A bed that looks like cupboards by day
  • A home office that also sleeps guests
  • A spare room that’s rarely slept in

Wall beds in Pinner Green: what you get

The mattress has to suit the mechanism, because the mechanism maker sets limits on size, depth and weight. We will talk through what suits the bed at the measuring visit, so you can choose a mattress that works. Most enquiries start with a bed that looks like cupboards by day and a proper bed instead of a sofa bed; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Pinner Green, bedrooms typically have regular walls, a window on one side and sometimes a chimney breast. That makes a full wall of fitted furniture simple to plan, laid out around what you store. Where a loft conversion has been added, the sloping ceiling can take storage too.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

Is bespoke worth it?

You can buy wall bed units off the shelf, often for less, and they can work in a simple space. They’re made in standard sizes, so they may not suit uneven walls, low ceilings or alcoves. Ours is made to the room you have. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Built-in pieces are planned around those fixed points.

There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

How fitting day works

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. First, you let us know about the space.
  2. We visit, measure and talk through the bed, shelves and desk.
  3. You receive a written quote, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The wall bed is fitted in your home.

How to get a quote

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.

Tips worth knowing

New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Leaseholders: check your lease first
  • Allow space for pillows and duvets
  • Choose a mattress that suits the mechanism

Before you first use the bed, read the mechanism maker’s guidance on lowering and lifting it. Make sure the floor in front is clear before the bed comes down, and don’t let children play with it.

If you know the wall’s construction, mention it. Solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard need different fixings, and we check it at the measuring visit too.

FAQs: wall beds in Pinner Green

Is parking a problem for fitting in Pinner Green?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.

I live near Hatch End station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Harrow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so there are no gaps at the sides.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

We plan the route in at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Is it possible to add a desk beside the wall bed?

Yes, and it’s one of the best ways to use the wall. A desk beside the bed suits a room that is an office by day, and any new sockets are for your electrician.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
