For homes in Pinner Green, we make under-stairs storage from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Each piece is finished by spray or by hand, in the colour you choose.

  • Nowhere to put coats, shoes and bags

  • The low end of the space going to waste

Where other trades come in

Some parts of a job need another trade, such as an electrician, a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Painting the hallway walls and ceiling
  • Moving gas pipes under the stairs

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it is made from

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Pull-out drawers
  • Coat hooks and shoe shelves
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish

Under-stairs storage in Pinner Green

Some under-stairs spaces are open enough for a small desk. We can build a desk with shelves above and a drawer or two below. If you’d like a socket or a light, your electrician fits it and we plan the furniture around it. We will look at whether it suits your stairs when we visit in Pinner Green. If your home has stairs open to a room, with clutter on show and nowhere to put coats, shoes and bags, under-stairs cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

In a family house, the hall and stairs typically carry the most clutter. With interwar houses, semis and detached homes a large part of the housing around Pinner Green, well-planned storage by the door or under the stairs can take a lot of it. Meters and fuse boards stay easy to reach.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Questions we are often asked

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Pinner Green?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Do you cover homes near Hatch End station?

Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

Which materials go into your under-stairs cupboards?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF is stable and takes paint well, so it suits the doors and fronts, while birch plywood gives strength to the drawers and carcasses. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, but it is useful to be around at the end.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

What affects the price in Pinner Green

There is no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:

  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • How square the room is
  • How big the furniture is

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Helping us understand the room

Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

From workshop to your room

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the space and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. You get in touch and tell us a little about the space under your stairs, and whether the meters or fuse board are in there.
  2. At the design visit we measure under the stairs and plan the drawers and doors with you.
  3. We send a quote in writing setting out the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. We make every part in our workshop, shaped to the angle of your stairs. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed to the stairs and the walls.

Preparing the room

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Starting with a design visit

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

Looking after your furniture

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. A few pointers help:

  • Note the things that need a home under the stairs
  • Find out what sits in the space now, from meters to pipes
  • Make room so the whole space can be measured
  • Measure your vacuum cleaner and ironing board

When we’ve finished fitting, the drawers and doors are ready to use. New paintwork takes time to cure fully, so go easy on it to begin with. Keep tape, sharp knocks and strong cleaners away from it while it settles.

Wet coats and shoes can mark paint and leave damp in a closed cupboard. Let them dry before they go away, and leave the door open for a while after a wet day if the cupboard feels damp.

When is bespoke worth it?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

Pinner Green homes and under-stairs storage

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Pinner Green were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 34%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 29%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Pinner Green, Historic England’s list includes Sweetmans Hall (Grade II*), less than half a mile south-east, and Elm Park Court (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Harrow included. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Pinner Green. We plan parking and access with you during the design visit.

The wider area includes historic houses like Headstone Manor, about 1.7 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, the space under the stairs may hold the meters or the fuse board, and the cupboards are planned around them. If your home is one of the older houses near Christian Science Church, the triangle under an old staircase is often deeper than it looks. If your children go to Harlyn Primary School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.
