Wall beds in North Harrow: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around North Harrow were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 54%) and before 1919 (about 23%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for wall beds, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of North Harrow include Church of St Alban (Grade II), under half a mile south-west, and The Rayners Public House (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 52% of households in the area around North Harrow live in detached or semi-detached houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. A house like that typically has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.
Close to Headstone Manor Recreation Ground? Wall beds are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. The wider area includes historic houses such as Headstone Manor, about 0.8 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice.
North Harrow is in the London Borough of Harrow, about 1 mile south-east of Harrow. From period terraces to newer flats in North Harrow, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Our work takes in places right across Harrow.

Wall beds in North Harrow
A home office that doubles as a guest room is a common request. We can design a wall with a fold-down bed and a desk or shelving around it, so the bed does not dominate the working day. We can allow for cables to the desk, though any new sockets are for your electrician. Typical reasons to get in touch are a bed that fills a little-used room and a flexible room for a growing family, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Around North Harrow, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. Small rooms like that suit wall beds, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.
The furniture is built in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

How fitting works for wall beds
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- You contact us about a wall bed for a spare room or studio.
- At the design visit we plan the bed cabinet and check the stairs, landings and any lift. Mention parking as well, since vans often need a permit or a paid bay.
- We send a quote in writing.
- The cabinet is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route.
- We carry the sections in, assemble them and fix the mechanism as its maker specifies.
Before fitting day
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Arranging a design visit
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.
Advice
Could you do it yourself?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Your questions about wall beds in North Harrow
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in North Harrow?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
Do you make wall beds for homes in North Harrow?
Yes, we work across Harrow, North Harrow included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details.
How long will the wall bed take to fit?
How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
Can you fit a wall bed to a stud wall?
It depends on the wall and floor. The mechanism must be fixed to a sound wall or floor, as its maker specifies, so we check it during the design visit.

The problems wall beds solve
Some people are tired of sofa beds. With a wall bed, guests sleep on a real mattress, on a proper frame.
If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:
- A spare room that’s rarely slept in
- A real mattress for visitors
- A flexible room for a growing family
- More floor space in a studio flat
Living in a block of flats near Harrow-on-the-Hill station? Then wall beds are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Pricing wall beds in North Harrow
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- The width and height of the space
- Spray painting or hand painting
- How square the room is
We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, message us from the contact page.
Helping us understand the room
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
