Wall beds in Seven Kings: what you get
Safety starts with the fixing: the mechanism is fixed as its maker specifies, into a wall or floor that is sound enough to hold it. At the design visit we look at the wall it will go on as solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard all need different fixings. We make wall beds from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about room for a desk and a guest bed and a hobby room with a bed for guests.
Around Seven Kings, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast with an alcove either side. Fitted furniture can fill the alcoves, wrap round the chimney breast or run across a whole wall. Walls and floors in older houses are rarely true, so the pieces are scribed to the wall and levelled at the base.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Bedroom storage in Seven Kings
In the streets around Seven Kings, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 45%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 28%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how wall beds are fixed and fitted. Terraced houses are home to about 41% of households in the streets around Seven Kings, the 2021 Census shows. London terraces typically have a small back bedroom and alcoves in the main bedroom, which suit fitted furniture. The share of homes built before 1919 around Seven Kings, about 45%, is well above the figure for Redbridge as a whole, about 27%, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. So older-house details are more likely to come into the design of wall beds.
For an older house near St John the Evangelist, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design. Living in a block of flats near Seven Kings station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Tips worth knowing
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Decide who the bed is mainly for
- Mention if the wall is a stud wall
- Check there is room for the bed to fold down
- Leaseholders: check your lease first
Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched up. A spray finish wipes clean and stays smooth and even.
Let us know what the wall is made of if you know. The fixing depends on the wall, and we look at it when we measure.
How we price wall beds
To work out the quote, we look at:
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Parking and unloading on your street
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. Tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.
Before the design visit
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a written quote. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it is useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.
- It starts with a short note from you.
- At the design visit we agree the layout and the colour.
- A written quote follows.
- We build the cabinets in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Preparing the room
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
Arranging a design visit
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

What prompts wall beds in Seven Kings
Often the bed is one part of a bigger plan. Shelves, cupboards or a desk built around it turn one wall into storage, workspace and a bed.
Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:
- A guest bed that disappears in the day
- A study that doubles as a spare room
- A living room with a bed that folds away
- Shelves or a desk around the bed
Close to South Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
Questions we’re often asked
Do you make wall beds for homes in Seven Kings?
Yes. Seven Kings is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Redbridge and London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details.
Can you fit wall beds to the uneven walls of an older house in Seven Kings?
Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
How is the furniture painted?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
What does a wall bed cost?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A single bed cabinet and a full wall with shelves and a desk are very different jobs, so we quote once we’ve seen the room. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.
Can a wall bed go on any wall?
It depends on the wall and floor. The mechanism must be fixed to a sound wall or floor, as its maker specifies, so we check it during the design visit.
