Need walk-in wardrobes in Seven Kings?

Walk-in wardrobes in Seven Kings: what you get

You don’t need a spare room to have a walk-in wardrobe. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, with doors or left open. Building a new stud partition is building work, so that is for your builder, and we fit the furniture inside. Most enquiries start with hanging for coats, dresses and shirts and proper shoe storage; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

A large share of the homes around Seven Kings were built before 1919, and in a Victorian or Edwardian bedroom, the chimney breast and its alcoves often shape the room. Fitted storage can sit in the alcoves or span the wall, chimney breast and all. Because older floors slope and walls bow, everything is scribed and levelled on site.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

How fitting day works

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Hand painting, if that is your finish, can follow the fitting.

  1. You tell us about the room and what you want to store.
  2. We visit to measure up and go through the layout.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build everything in our workshop.
  5. Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room. We then check the doors and drawers with you.

How to prepare

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Ask for a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.

How we price walk-in wardrobes

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • The overall size of the piece
  • How square the room is

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What we need to know

To give us a picture of the room, it is useful to include:

  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Seven Kings

Most people come to us because their clothes have outgrown their wardrobes. Rails are crammed, shelves overflow and shoes end up under the bed. A walk-in wardrobe gives everything room.

People typically get in touch with us about things like these:

  • A calmer, clearer bedroom
  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • A use for a small spare room
  • Shelves for shoes and bags

If your children go to Downshall Primary School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from

How to choose a carpenter in London

What walk-in wardrobes can’t fix

We are carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Structural changes or removing walls
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Damp treatment or repairs

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

Bedroom storage in Seven Kings

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Seven Kings were built before 1919 (about 45%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 28%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Redbridge sets its own rules. Depending on your street in Seven Kings, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Parking near your home is worth mentioning at the measuring visit. About 41% of households in the area around Seven Kings live in terraced houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. Terraced houses often have a narrow back bedroom and alcoves either side of a chimney breast, which suit fitted furniture.

The wider area includes historic houses like Valentines Mansion, about 1.4 miles west. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. For an older house near St John the Evangelist, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

If you are likely to move soon, standalone furniture you can take with you may suit better. How long you will stay is worth weighing up before choosing fitted. Standard units assume square rooms, and period homes seldom have them, so you end up with gaps, wobbles and units that do not meet the skirting. Fitted pieces follow the wall and sit level.

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Seven Kings

Can you fit walk-in wardrobes to the uneven walls of an older house in Seven Kings?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Seven Kings?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. Check your lease, as we cannot advise on it.

Do you do the electrics for the lighting?

No, wiring is for your electrician. We make and fit the furniture and plan space for the lighting you want.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
