Window seats in Waddon

About our window seats in Waddon

Lots of period homes across London have sash windows. Under a sash, the seat is set below the cill so the window can still be used. If the window has shutters, the seat is planned so they can still open fully. These details are measured when we visit your home in Waddon. If your home has an empty bay that doesn’t get used and looking for a reading spot by the window, that’s what window seats are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Homes in an area like Waddon can come from many different periods, so the tricky spaces vary too: a bay, the space under the stairs, a hallway recess or the eaves of a converted loft. Window seats are designed for the space you have. Meters, fuse boards and boilers keep the access they need.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

FAQs: window seats in Waddon

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Waddon station?

Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Waddon?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

How long will the window seat fitting take?

How long the fitting takes depends on whether the seat has drawers, a lift-up lid or a radiator grille, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We make the seat in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

Should I send pictures?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

How much does a window seat cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The shape of the window, the mix of drawers and lids, and any grille all play a part. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.

How fitting day works

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall. How long the fitting itself takes depends on whether the seat has drawers, a lift-up lid or a radiator grille, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Before fitting day, we check the route in as well as the room, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. We cover floors and doorways on the way in.

  1. First we hear about your bay or window and what you’d like.
  2. We measure the window, the cill and any radiator or shutters. Then we talk through the seat height and storage.
  3. We agree the seat, the storage and the finish, and send a quote in writing.
  4. The seat is made in our workshop and painted in your colour. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home and check every lid and drawer with you. A radiator grille, if there is one, lets the heat through.

Before fitting day

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

Do you need window seats in Waddon?

The radiator beneath a window can make it tricky to put furniture there. A seat with a grille in the front keeps the radiator working and the window usable. It solves the problem of what to do with the space.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Wanting a seat without blocking the radiator
  • A nursery or bedroom short of storage
  • Nowhere to keep blankets, toys or books
  • A bay with no furniture that fits

For a family home near Aerodrome Primary Academy, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

What it costs

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

What we need to know

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It is useful to include:

  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Your postcode and the borough

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a written quote. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To book a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Where other trades come in

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Fabric covers and cushions
  • Making good the walls, which is for a plasterer or decorator
  • Plumbing work on the radiator under the window

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How it works.
