The problems bespoke kitchens solve
People also want a kitchen that’s built to last and can be repainted, which suits a long-term home. Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up later on.
Some of the things we’re asked to solve are these:
- More storage in a small kitchen
- A larder for food and small appliances
- A kitchen island with room around it
- A layout for a small or awkward room
If you live near Kensington Palace Green, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Whether you will get a written quote, not just a figure
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- How doors and drawers are fitted
About our bespoke kitchens in Bayswater
Our bespoke kitchens are fitted in Bayswater and all over London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and planning the layout, followed by a quote. Once agreed, the kitchen is made in our workshop and fitted in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. People usually come to us about cabinets for a narrow kitchen and a dresser that suits a period house, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
With a large share of homes around Bayswater built before 1919, a chimney breast often survives in the kitchen, and it can frame a range cooker or a dresser. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and any damp is sorted before cabinets go against it. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens
Is parking a problem for fitting in Bayswater?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
I live near London Paddington station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Kensington and Chelsea and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.
How long will the kitchen take to fit?
It depends on the kitchen. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you can plan your other trades around it.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you tell us about the room on our contact form.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. Check your lease, as we cannot advise on it.
Could you do it yourself?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.
Why bespoke in Bayswater?
Larders, dressers and tall cupboards are hard to find in standard sizes that suit an older room. Bespoke joinery can be made for the exact space, painted to match the rest of the kitchen. Off-the-shelf furniture is made for flat walls and level floors, which older houses rarely have, so it leaves gaps at the wall, tilts on sloping floors or sits awkwardly against skirting and picture rails. Fitted pieces follow the wall and sit level.
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A larger piece means more material and more time. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

How fitting day works
In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. We keep dust down and tidy as we go. Hand painting, if that is your finish, can follow the fitting.
- We start with how you use the kitchen and what is not working. It’s useful to know the worktop, sink and appliances you have in mind.
- We visit, measure the walls, floor and ceiling, and go through the design, including where the sink and appliances will go.
- We send a quote that sets out the design, materials and finish.
- We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The kitchen is fitted in your home, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer do the plumbing, electrics and gas. We do not arrange those trades, so it is useful to book them early.
Before we arrive
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
Ask for a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Advice
Boards, parts and paint
Spray-painted finish
For a sleek look, spray painting works well, and it’s finished before fitting day.
Birch plywood
Long kitchen shelves can sag under plates and jars, unless they’re built strong.

Bespoke kitchens in Bayswater: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Bayswater were built before 1919 (about 71%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 10%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The National Heritage List has 267 entries within half a mile of the centre of Bayswater. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your street in Bayswater joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the measuring visit. We will plan where the van can stop.
If your children go to Fox Primary School or a school nearby, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Matthew, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
