Bespoke kitchens in Kensington, Kensington and Chelsea
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Kensington starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

Bespoke kitchens in Kensington: what you get
An island can be a good addition where there’s space for one. We check there is comfortable space on every side, and in a narrow kitchen an island can make the room harder to use. Where space is tight, a peninsula or a longer run may suit better. If your home has making the most of a galley kitchen and open shelves with cupboards below, that’s what kitchens are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Older homes normally have generous ceiling heights, and around Kensington, a large share of homes are that age. That suits tall larder cupboards and wall cabinets taken up to the ceiling. Cabinets are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, with the finish agreed in your quote.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:
- Connecting a gas hob or cooker
- Plumbing, which is for your plumber
- Wiring for appliances and lights

Bespoke kitchens in Kensington: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 69% of the housing in the streets around Kensington, with about 10% built between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Within a mile of the centre of Kensington, 21 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your street in Kensington joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
Leighton House, about 0.1 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. For families living near St Barnabas and St Philip's CofE Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. For an older house near Church of St Barnabas, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Why bespoke in Kensington?
Neither choice is right for every home. If the room is square and the budget is tight, a ready-made kitchen may do the job. For period homes, awkward rooms or a painted look, bespoke tends to earn its place. Tall ceilings in older homes leave a band of empty wall above standard furniture, wasting space that could hold things you rarely use. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.
We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, get in touch through our contact form.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Kensington
My home in Kensington is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Is Kensington in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes, we work across Kensington and Chelsea, Kensington included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details.
What happens when you come to measure?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
What happens on fitting day
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so kitchens are made in sections sized to get through. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.
