Bespoke Kitchens in Bedford Park

In Bedford Park, we design bespoke kitchens around the room you actually have. Your kitchen is designed at a visit to your home and made in our workshop.

  • Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
  • A larder for food and small appliances
  • A dresser that suits a period house

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Bedford Park

Flats with tricky kitchen walls are another reason. We can design for a galley, an alcove or a corner without wasting space.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
  • Tall larder storage
  • An island where space allows

If you live near Turnham Green, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

How we make bespoke kitchens for Bedford Park

Kitchens in period houses bring their own challenges. Few walls are flat, and floors often fall away from the walls, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. We scribe the cabinets to the walls and set them level on adjustable feet or a plinth giving a level line for the worktop you choose. Most enquiries start with a central island in a larger kitchen and a larder for food and small appliances; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

An older kitchen often has a sash window and a back door, which fix where things can go. Around Bedford Park, where a large share of homes date from before 1919, the cabinets are planned around the windows and doors you have. The sink position is agreed with your plumber. You choose the worktop, sink and appliances.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the kitchen we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished.

From workshop to your room

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it’s useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
  3. A written quote follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

Ask for a quote

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Bespoke kitchens in Bedford Park: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Bedford Park were built before 1919 (about 55%) and since 2000 (about 20%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 216 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Bedford Park. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. The share of homes built before 1919 around Bedford Park, about 55%, is well above the figure for Ealing as a whole, about 28%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. So older-house details are more likely to come into the design of kitchens.

If you live in a period home close to St Peter's, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. Living in a block of flats near South Acton station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Flats, leases and landlords

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we’ve measured the way in.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Bedford Park

My home in Bedford Park is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to South Acton station?

Yes, homes across Ealing and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

How long does fitting take?

It depends on the kitchen. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you can plan your other trades around it.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

Is there room for an island in my kitchen?

Yes, where there is space. At the design visit we check the clearances around it, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.

Honest limits

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Plumbing, which is for your plumber
  • Plastering, tiling or decorating
  • Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe engineer

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.
