Bespoke Kitchens in South Acton

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make bespoke kitchens for homes in South Acton, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A dresser that suits a period house
  • A kitchen for a room that isn’t square

How we make bespoke kitchens for South Acton

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. A larder can have shelves, deep drawers and racks, planned around what you store. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts tricky space to work. If you are living with a layout for a small or awkward room and a painted dresser for the kitchen, kitchens made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Where the sink, cooker and boiler can go often depends on where the pipes and power already are. For a kitchen in South Acton, the layout is planned with the existing services in mind. Any changes to plumbing, electrics or gas are for your plumber, electrician or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.

The furniture is made at our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in South Acton

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in South Acton?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Does a conservation area in or near South Acton affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Will you connect the sink and appliances?

No, that work is for other trades. Your plumber connects the sink and dishwasher, a Gas Safe registered engineer handles any gas, and your electrician does the wiring, while we make and fit the cabinets.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

How much time does fitting need?

Every kitchen is different. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.

Do you cover South Acton?

Yes. We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, and that includes South Acton.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in South Acton

Homes built before 1919 make up about 41% of the housing in the area around South Acton, with about 26% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List has 21 entries within half a mile of the centre of South Acton. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and kitchens can be designed to work around them. The share of homes built before 1919 around South Acton, about 41%, is well above the figure for Hounslow as a whole, about 16%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. So older-house details are more likely to come into the design of kitchens.

For an older house near Church of All Saints, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. For a family home near Ark Acton Academy, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.

How it is made

Spray-painted finish

With a spray finish, the painting is done in the workshop, which keeps work in your home to fitting.

Larder and dresser units

A larder gives tall storage for food and small appliances, made to the space.

When you need someone else

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Wiring for appliances and lights
  • Moving water or waste pipes
  • Any work on the gas supply

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Larders and dressers
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Islands where space allows

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?

Off-the-shelf kitchens are quicker to buy and typically cost less, and in a square modern room they can work well. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to need filler panels and leave gaps. Bespoke is a bigger investment, built around the space you have. Off-the-shelf furniture is designed for no room in particular, while fitted furniture is drawn for the room it goes into. The finish is chosen to suit the space.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. It’s useful to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.

From workshop to your room

In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including anything on the walls near the work. We cover floors and doorways first. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.

  1. You tell us about the room and how you use it.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and storage.
  3. We send a written quote setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician. We don’t arrange these trades ourselves.

How to prepare

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

How to get a quote

A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

The problems bespoke kitchens solve

Flats with tricky kitchen walls are another reason. We can design for a galley, an alcove or a corner without wasting space.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
  • An island where space allows
  • Room for everything in the kitchen
  • A kitchen that fits an uneven room

Near listed buildings like Gunnersbury House, under half a mile south-east of the centre of South Acton, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Choosing a carpenter

  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
