How we make bespoke kitchens for Acton
A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe registered engineer and electrics by your electrician, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. We make kitchens from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a kitchen planned around your appliances and a dresser that suits a period house.
Whether your home in Acton is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, a bespoke kitchen starts with measuring the room. Your choice of worktop, sink and appliances is designed in. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Fitting day, step by step
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Before fitting day, we check the route in along with the room itself, so kitchens arrive in sections that fit through. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- First, you let us know about the kitchen you have and the one you want.
- At the design visit we measure the room and talk through the layout, storage and finish.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish, for you to read through.
- The units are made and finished in our workshop.
- We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician handle the plumbing, gas and electrics.
Before we arrive
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Arranging a design visit
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

How it’s made
Moisture-resistant MDF
For painted cabinet fronts, moisture-resistant MDF is our usual choice, because it stays flat.
Larder and dresser units
Larders and dressers can fill an alcove or end a run in a way standard units cannot.
Questions we are often asked
I live in a flat in Acton. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Kitchens are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Acton?
Yes. Acton is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Ealing and London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?
Yes. We scribe each cabinet to the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the worktop you choose can sit level. That is a big part of why bespoke suits period homes.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Before and after fitting day
The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:
- Choose your appliances before the design is final
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Tell us about parking at the measuring visit
Wipe up spills and splashes promptly, particularly around the sink and dishwasher. Even moisture-resistant materials last better when kept dry.
Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Damp behind units can lead to mould, especially on a colder external wall.

For a family home near Derwentwater Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. The wider area includes historic houses like Gunnersbury Park, about 1.4 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Many off-the-shelf kitchens use chipboard carcasses with a printed or wrapped finish. Ours are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray or hand painted, so the finish can be repainted later. Standalone furniture leaves gaps behind and above it that gather dust, while fitted pieces are scribed tight to the walls and ceiling.
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
