About fitted wardrobes in W12
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with tall cupboards either side and storage bridging over the headboard. In other rooms, the units sit either side of a window, with a dressing table or seat in between. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. Most enquiries start with no space in front for doors to swing and too little room for clothes; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
- You let us know about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
- We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers, with your clothes in mind.
- We put the design, materials and finish into a written quote.
- Once you are happy, the wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
- We bring them to your home and fit them in place.
What goes into your quote
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Fitted wardrobes for homes across W12
If your bedroom in W12 has a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for storage. In rooms without one, a full wall of storage often works best. Either way, each piece is fitted to the walls and floor as they are.
Homes built before 1919 make up about 55% of the housing in W12, with about 17% built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. About 55% of homes in W12 were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths. About 26% of households in W12 live in flats in converted or shared houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it is worth checking yours first.
Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, W12 included. Every job starts the same way, with a design visit to measure and discuss the design.
Shepherd's Bush: For a flat near Shepherds Bush station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. For families living near Addison Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.
Flats, conversions and lettings
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls during the design visit.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease.
What it’s made from
Birch plywood
Shelves inside a wardrobe carry folded clothes, shoes and boxes. Birch plywood keeps them flat across wider sections.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well, which makes it ideal for wardrobe doors and visible panels. It suits bedrooms where the wardrobe sits on an external wall.
What we do not do
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
- Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
- Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
Pricing fitted wardrobes in W12
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- The number of doors and drawers
- The width and height of the space
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Tell us about parking during the design visit.
Before the design visit
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- How you want to use the space
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Your postcode and the borough
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.
Looking after your furniture
These points come up often when people plan fitted wardrobes. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:
- Let us know about any damp you have seen on bedroom walls
- Tell us about the lift and stairs in your block
- Decide what goes on shelves and what goes in drawers
- Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
Once clothes go in and the wardrobes are in daily use, doors may settle slightly. Most hinges can be adjusted to bring a door back in line, and sliding doors can be reset on their track.
Make sure vents at the top or bottom of the wardrobe aren’t blocked. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes and deal with any damp early.
Questions from W12
How long will the fitting take?
How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We’ll explain what fitting day involves before we start.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it helps to be around at the end.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
How do I get started?
Just fill in our short enquiry form. It helps to send rough measurements and a few pictures, and we’ll arrange a design visit, followed by a written quote.
Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?
Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside. If there’s damp on the wall already, it should be sorted first.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Can fitted wardrobes follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, keeping hanging space at the tall end and drawers or shelves lower down. It makes good use of space that is hard to furnish.
