Need bespoke kitchens in Hanger Hill?

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Larders, dressers and tall cupboards are hard to find in standard sizes that suit an older room. We can build them to fit, painted to match the rest of the kitchen. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings, with panels and details to suit the house.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Why choose us

  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • More than 300 projects completed
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • A spray or hand-painted finish

Bespoke kitchens in Hanger Hill

A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we plan the cabinets around where their work goes. We make kitchens from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are more storage in a small kitchen and a kitchen for a room that isn’t square.

In a house built before 1919, a wall that looks solid may be lath and plaster. Since a large share of homes around Hanger Hill are that old, we check each wall before wall cabinets are planned. If a wall cannot take wall cabinets, tall larders or a dresser standing on the floor can do the job.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Hanger Hill?

Yes, we work across Ealing, Hanger Hill included, and across the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Can you fit bespoke kitchens to the uneven walls of an older house in Hanger Hill?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?

No. We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe engineer and electrics by your electrician, and we plan the cabinets around their work.

How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A small galley and a large kitchen with a larder and island are very different jobs, so we price it after the design visit. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What are your kitchens made from?

MDF for smooth painted parts and birch plywood for drawer boxes and shelves. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you.

How much time does fitting need?

How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll talk it through during the design visit.

How we price bespoke kitchens

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:

  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

What we need to know

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

When is bespoke worth it?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Flats, conversions and lettings

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.

From workshop to your room

When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made in our workshop come in next, one at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it is useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You tell us about the kitchen and where it is in your home.
  2. At the design visit we measure the kitchen and the route in, including stairs, doorways and any lift.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Hanger Hill include West Acton Underground Station (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east, and Park Royal London Regional Transport Station (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Ealing included. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Hanger Hill. How the van gets to your door is planned during the design visit.

The wider area includes historic houses like Pitzhanger Manor, about 1.2 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. Close to Ealing Common? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of the Ascension, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.
