Bespoke Kitchens in Brentford End

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Brentford End starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

How we make bespoke kitchens for Brentford End

An island can be a good addition where there’s space for one. There needs to be enough clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and in a narrow kitchen an island can make the room harder to use. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts. People normally come to us about a dresser that suits a period house and a kitchen finished in your colours, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

A larger semi or detached house may have room for a utility area or boot room by the back door. Around Brentford End, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing. Tall cupboards for the washing machine, coats and cleaning things can be made to match the kitchen. Your plumber connects any washing machine or sink.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Where other trades come in

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Making good walls and ceilings
  • Any work on the gas supply
  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls

If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it is made from

  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Larders and dressers
  • Islands where space allows

Kitchens in Brentford End homes

In the area around Brentford End, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 31%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 30%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The centre of Brentford End is within about a quarter of a mile of the Isleworth Riverside Conservation Area. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Brentford End. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.

If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Lawrence, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. For a family home near The Green School, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Syon House Conservatory, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

How it’s made

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting suits a kitchen that should look crisp, and it is finished before fitting day.

Birch plywood

Long kitchen shelves can sag under plates and jars, and birch plywood helps.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. You let us know about the room and how you use it.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and storage. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made at our workshop.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

Questions we are often asked

Is parking a problem for fitting in Brentford End?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

I live in a flat in Brentford End. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

How long will the kitchen take to fit?

The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We’ll talk it through at the measuring visit.

What happens at the measuring visit?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Can I have a kitchen island?

If the room is big enough, yes. We measure at the design visit to check there’s room to walk round it and open doors. If it would crowd the kitchen, we’ll say so.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Parking near your home
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Tell us about parking during the design visit.

Getting in touch

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • How you want to use the space

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.
