Practical tips

People planning bespoke kitchens often ask about these. They help before and after fitting:

  • Talk to your other trades in good time
  • Wipe up spills promptly
  • Think about how you cook and what you store
  • Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access

Once the kitchen is fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. In time, mild soapy water and a soft cloth keep them clean.

Damp walls should be dealt with before cabinets are fitted. Damp behind units can lead to mould, particularly on external walls.

How we make bespoke kitchens for Hounslow

A larder cupboard can hold more than a run of wall units. A larder can have shelves, deep drawers and racks, sized to what you keep in them. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts tricky space to work. We make kitchens from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are a kitchen planned around your appliances and making the most of a galley kitchen.

Moving a sink or cooker means moving pipes and cables, which is a job for other trades. For a kitchen in Hounslow, the layout is planned with the existing services in mind. Any changes to plumbing, electrics or gas are for your plumber, electrician or a Gas Safe engineer.

The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Questions we are often asked

Do you cover homes near Hounslow station?

Yes, homes across London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Hounslow?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Usually not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

It’s made in sections, sized for the route along with the room itself. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.

What materials do you use for kitchens?

Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

What it is made from

Doors and drawer fronts

The style of the doors sets the tone of the kitchen, whether plain or framed.

Larder and dresser units

A larder gives tall storage for food and small appliances, made to the space.

When is bespoke worth it?

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

From workshop to your room

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so let us know what’s near you at the design visit. If you live in a flat, any lift or building rules are worth checking too.

  1. We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
  3. We send a written quote setting out the cabinets, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer handle the services. We don’t arrange these trades ourselves.

Preparing the room

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area

Getting a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Honest limits

Not everything around bespoke kitchens is carpentry, such as an electrician, a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • Plastering, tiling or decorating
  • Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)
