How we make bespoke kitchens for Woodlands
Moisture-resistant MDF suits kitchens well, because it stays stable and takes paint beautifully. For drawer boxes and shelves, birch plywood is a good choice. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in the colours you choose. We make kitchens from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about room for everything in the kitchen and a painted dresser for the kitchen.
Knocked-through kitchen-diners in older semis sometimes keep a chimney breast, which can frame a dresser or tall cupboards. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Woodlands, that’s a feature worth designing around. Any capped chimney stays ventilated.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

The problems bespoke kitchens solve
Flats with tricky kitchen walls are another reason. We can design for a galley, an alcove or a corner without wasting space.
Requests we hear often include:
- An island where space allows
- Open shelves with cupboards below
- A kitchen that fits an uneven room
- Tall larder storage
The wider area includes historic houses like Syon House, about 1.4 miles east. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.
What to check before you book
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Woodlands
About 32% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Woodlands went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 25% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Woodlands, Historic England’s list includes Gumley House (convent) (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles east, and Garvin House (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles east. If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 32% of homes in the neighbourhood around Woodlands date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Many houses of that era have had the kitchen extended or knocked through, so the cabinets are made for today’s layout.
For a flat near Isleworth station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mary the Virgin, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

What’s near Woodlands
We fit furniture in homes around Royal Military School of Music, The George Inn and Gumley House RC Convent School, among other places. There’s a railway station in Woodlands itself: Isleworth station. Nearby you will also find West Middlesex University Hospital (0.7 miles east) and Treaty Centre (1 mile west). For a walk, there is Garden Lake.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
What it is made from
Doors and drawer fronts
The style of the doors sets the tone of the kitchen, whether plain or framed.
Spray-painted finish
We spray paint in the workshop for a smooth, factory-like finish.
How we price bespoke kitchens
The price for your room depends on:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
What to send when you contact us
A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- What the furniture needs to hold
Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
Common questions about bespoke kitchens
Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Woodlands?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Woodlands?
Yes. Woodlands is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hounslow and London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
What happens when you come to measure?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.
Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?
Yes. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled, so the worktop you choose can sit level. It’s one of the main reasons people choose bespoke in an older house.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
The furniture is built in sections, sized for the route as well as the room. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the design visit.

What happens on fitting day
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so it’s worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- You tell us about the room and how you use it. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout.
- A quote follows, covering the design and finish, ready for you to check.
- The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are built in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician. We don’t arrange these trades ourselves.
How to prepare
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
How to get a quote
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form. The written quote follows the visit.
