Bespoke kitchens in Spring Grove: what you get

Older London homes are rarely simple places to fit a kitchen. Few walls are flat, and floors often fall away from the walls, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. We scribe the cabinets to the walls and set them level on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the worktop you choose can sit level. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a kitchen finished in your colours and more storage in a small kitchen.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Spring Grove, many kitchens have a garden door and a window that shape the layout. The cabinets and any larder or dresser are made for those walls. Your chosen worktop, sink and appliances are fitted into the design, with plumbing and electrics left to your plumber and electrician.

The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

From workshop to your room

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.

  1. We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are built in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician. We do not arrange these trades ourselves.

Preparing the room

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

Arranging a design visit

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, get in touch through our contact form.

Advice

Bespoke kitchens in Spring Grove: local notes

In the neighbourhood around Spring Grove, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%) and the years since 2000 (about 24%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. There are 8 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Spring Grove. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. All of London, Hounslow included, is inside the ULEZ. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Spring Grove. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Summer House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. If you live in a flat close to Isleworth station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Questions from Spring Grove

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Spring Grove?

Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London, and Spring Grove is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?

Yes, that is part of the job. Few walls in a period house are straight, so we scribe and level every cabinet.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

Getting it in is planned at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Spring Grove?

A common reason is a room that ready-made units don’t fit. Off-the-shelf cabinets come in set widths, and the gaps get filled with panels. Bespoke cabinets are built to the real sizes instead.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
  • A larder for food and small appliances
  • Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
  • A central island in a larger kitchen

Osterley House, about 0.7 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Whether they measure the room themselves

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

How we price bespoke kitchens

Several things affect the price:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The number of doors and drawers

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What to send when you contact us

A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Approximate measurements of the space

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Ready-made ranges rarely include a larder or dresser that fits a particular alcove. Bespoke joinery can be made for the exact space, with the same finish as the cabinets. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and interwar homes often have all three. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Why choose us

  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • Saturday visits and fitting by prior arrangement
  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
  • A spray or hand-painted finish

Take a look at how bespoke compares with ready-made and what a quote should include.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
