What happens on fitting day

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You let us know about the room and how you use it.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
  3. We send a quote in writing setting out the cabinets, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician. We do not arrange these trades ourselves.

Before fitting day

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Starting with a design visit

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.

Bespoke kitchens in Brondesbury

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, sized to what you keep in them. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts tricky space to work. If you’re living with a kitchen planned around your appliances and a dresser that suits a period house, that’s what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

A large share of the homes around Brondesbury were built before 1919, and in a Victorian or Edwardian terrace, the kitchen is often in the narrow rear part of the house, or in a side return that has since been extended. Walls and floors in older houses are rarely true, so cabinets are scribed and levelled on site. You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made around them.

The furniture is built in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Why bespoke in Brondesbury?

Off-the-shelf kitchens are quicker to buy and normally cost less and they suit many newer homes. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to need filler panels and leave gaps. A bespoke kitchen costs more but is made for the room. Chimney breasts in older houses stand out by different amounts, so the recesses either side are rarely the same, and standard units bought as a pair rarely suit both. Fitted furniture is made to each one separately.

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Why choose us

  • Designed for the room you have
  • A design visit, then a quote in writing
  • Saturday work by prior arrangement
  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight

What affects the price in Brondesbury

The price for your room depends on:

  • How square the room is
  • How big the furniture is
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Parking and unloading on your street

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Helping us understand the room

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

Bespoke kitchens in Brondesbury: local notes

In the area around Brondesbury, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 66%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 10%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Brondesbury is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. About 66% of homes in the neighbourhood around Brondesbury were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Kitchens in houses of that age often sit in a narrow back addition, with walls and floors that are not true, so cabinets are scribed and levelled on site.

Fenton House, about 1.5 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Black Lion Public House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

Questions we are often asked

Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Brondesbury?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

How do you fit bespoke kitchens in a flat in Brondesbury?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Kitchens are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

How long does fitting take?

The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll talk it through during the design visit.

What are the kitchen cabinets made of?

Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours you choose.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

Can I have a kitchen island?

Where space allows, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we check this at the design visit. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts.

Where other trades come in

We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Making good walls and ceilings
  • Building work, like removing walls
  • Wiring for appliances and lights

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we will give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

What goes into it

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Islands where space allows
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Larders and dressers

Why people ask for bespoke kitchens in Brondesbury

A painted kitchen can be refreshed later, which suits a long-term home. Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up over the years.

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:

  • An island where space allows
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
  • A dresser that suits a period house

If your children go to North West London Jewish Day School or a school nearby, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

What to check before you book

  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • How parking will work on your street
