Common questions about bespoke kitchens

How do you fit bespoke kitchens in a flat in Stonebridge?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Stonebridge?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

What materials do you use for kitchens?

MDF for smooth painted parts and birch plywood for drawer boxes and shelves. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in colours you choose.

Which worktops and appliances can I have?

The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and we design the cabinets around them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need someone to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

How we make bespoke kitchens for Stonebridge

A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so there are no filler panels covering tricky gaps. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you before anything is made at our workshop. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a kitchen finished in your colours and room for everything in the kitchen.

Kitchens in newer homes often face onto a balcony door or a large window, which leaves fewer walls for cabinets. With many homes around Stonebridge built since 2000, tall larders and a peninsula, where there is room, can make up the storage. Wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or with fixings made for the board.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What affects the price in Stonebridge

The price for your room depends on:

  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • The width and height of the space

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Before the design visit

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved

For a quote for bespoke kitchens in Stonebridge, message us from the contact page. Tell us which room it is and roughly what you have in mind, with sizes if you have them. We will arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.

Kitchens in Stonebridge: local notes

About 36% of the homes in the streets around Stonebridge went up since 2000, and about 28% before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Stonebridge is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Around a third of the homes in the area around Stonebridge (about 36%) were built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Newer homes normally have open-plan kitchens with plasterboard walls, so the cabinet fixings are chosen for the board.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Pitzhanger Manor, about 2.8 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If you live in a flat close to Harlesden station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. Close to St. Raphael's Edible Garden? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s easy to buy.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot usually do that in an older room.

Materials and finishes

Moisture-resistant MDF

For painted cabinet fronts, moisture-resistant MDF is our usual choice, because it’s stable and smooth.

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish can be done on site after fitting. Chips are simple to touch in.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the design visit.

From workshop to your room

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so it helps to let us know at the design visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and a Gas Safe engineer.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
