Bespoke Kitchens in Brunswick Park

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Brunswick Park starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

  • Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
  • Room for everything in the kitchen
  • Tall larder storage

About our bespoke kitchens in Brunswick Park

We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets, while other trades handle the services. Your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. If you are living with tall larder storage and a kitchen for a room that isn’t square, kitchens made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

Around Brunswick Park, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the original kitchen was probably small, and many have since been extended or opened up. The cabinets are designed for the room as it is today, with an island where space allows.

If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Brunswick Park

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Brunswick Park were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 60%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 13%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 48% of households in the streets around Brunswick Park, the 2021 Census shows. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier. More than half of the homes in the streets around Brunswick Park (about 60%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Interwar houses often started with a small kitchen that has since been extended or opened up, so the kitchen is designed for the room as it is now.

If you live in a flat close to New Southgate station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If you live in a period home close to Oakleigh Community Church, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. If you live near Friary Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

Brunswick Park is about 2 miles south-west of Finchley, part of the London Borough of Barnet. We cover Brunswick Park as part of our work across Barnet, and the process is the same everywhere we work. We cover places right across Barnet, large and small.

In N11, N20 and N14, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Whether you live on a street like Dene Road, Link Road and Pine Road or on one nearby, we can visit to measure up for bespoke kitchens. If you’re just outside Brunswick Park, we also cover Osidge (1 mile north-east), Southgate (1 mile east), East Barnet (1 mile north-west), New Southgate (1 mile south) and Friern Barnet (1 mile south). We also make bespoke kitchens in nearby places such as Finchley (2 miles south-west), Barnet (2 miles north-west), Burnt Oak (5 miles west), East Finchley (3 miles south-west), Hendon (4 miles south-west) and Edgware (5 miles west).

How we price bespoke kitchens

Several things affect the price:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • How you want to use the space
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To book a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

Can you fit furniture in a home close to New Southgate station?

Yes, homes across Barnet and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Brunswick Park?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London, and Brunswick Park is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Typically not. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character.

What finishes do you offer?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?

No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe engineer and electrics by your electrician, and we plan the cabinets around their work.

Looking after your furniture

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Measure the route into the kitchen
  • Share the layout with your other trades
  • Think about how you cook and what you store
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first

Don’t leave water sitting on painted cabinets, particularly near the sink. Even moisture-resistant materials last better when kept dry.

Damp walls should be dealt with before cabinets are fitted. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, particularly on external walls.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. We start with how you use the kitchen and what is not working.
  2. We come to measure up and plan the layout with you.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made and finished in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The kitchen is fitted in your home, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer do the plumbing, electrics and gas. We do not arrange those trades, so it’s useful to book them early.

Before we arrive

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

How to get a quote

It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To share them, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
