Bespoke kitchens in Southgate
Our bespoke kitchens are fitted in Southgate and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure and discuss the layout, then a quote in writing. The cabinets are made in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Most enquiries start with an island where space allows and a kitchen planned around your appliances; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
An island needs space around it to work, and not every kitchen has that. Around Southgate, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, and in an extended kitchen there may be space. The space around any island is measured at the measuring visit. Services to an island are for your plumber and electrician.
A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

To work out the quote, we look at:
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How square the room is
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
Rooms that are not square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it.
Before the design visit
These details help when you get in touch:
- Your postcode and the borough
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form and let us know about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
Bespoke kitchens in Southgate: local notes
About 59% of the homes in the streets around Southgate went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 16% before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. A conservation area lies within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Southgate, according to Historic England’s records. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home in Southgate is on or near a main road, tell us at the measuring visit. We will plan where the van can stop.
If your children go to Ashmole Primary School or a school nearby, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. For an older house near Christ Church Southgate Parish Church, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Materials and finishes
Hand-painted finish
Some people like the character of a hand-painted kitchen in a period house.
Larder and dresser units
Dressers suit many period kitchens, and each is made for its wall.
Do you need bespoke kitchens in Southgate?
Many people come to us because a standard kitchen doesn’t suit their room. Standard units are made in fixed sizes, and the gaps get filled with panels. Bespoke cabinets are built to the real sizes instead.
Bespoke kitchens can help with:
- A kitchen planned around your appliances
- More storage in a small kitchen
- A layout for a small or tricky room
- A dresser that suits a period house
If you live near Grovelands Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- How parking will work on your street
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
What happens on fitting day
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- You get in touch and describe the kitchen you want.
- At the design visit we plan the kitchen and talk about colours and finish.
- A written quote follows, with the finish agreed.
- The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
- The kitchen is fitted and scribed to the walls, with any hand painting done in the room.
- Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
How to get a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens
Do you cover homes near New Southgate station?
Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Does a conservation area in or near Southgate affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Should I send photos?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.
Can I have a kitchen island?
Yes, where there’s space. At the design visit we check the clearances around it, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Ready-made kitchens are widely available and often cheaper, and in a square modern room they can work well. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to need filler panels and leave gaps. Bespoke is a bigger investment, built around the space you have. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Fitted pieces are scribed to both.
We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
