Bespoke kitchens for homes in the City of London
We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets, while other trades handle the services. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe engineer and electrics by your electrician, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. Typical reasons to get in touch are cabinets built around the appliances you choose and extra cupboard space; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Many homes around the City of London date from the post-war decades, and London’s post-war housing includes flats in blocks as well as houses. For a flat, cabinets are made in sections that fit the stairs and lift. You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the gas, plumbing and electrics are for the right trades.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Questions we’re often asked
Is parking a problem for fitting in the City of London?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit. The City is inside the Congestion Charge zone too, and the ULEZ covers all of London.
Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in the City of London?
Yes, the City of London is within the area we cover, which takes in all of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
Is there room for an island in my kitchen?
If there is enough room, yes. There has to be comfortable space on every side, and we check this at the design visit. In a narrow kitchen, a longer run or a peninsula may suit better.
Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?
Yes, that is part of the job. Few walls in a period house are straight, so we scribe and level every cabinet.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you.
From workshop to your room
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed during the design visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Drilling into concrete is noisier than into brick or plaster, so a word with the neighbours before fitting day can help. Fitting day is planned around any building rules on noisy work. Dust is kept down and cleared as we go.
- First, you let us know about the room. Say a little about the way you cook.
- We visit, measure and talk through the layout, larder, dresser or island, where space allows.
- A written quote is sent to you, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The cabinets are fitted in your home, with plumbing, gas and electrics by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician. It helps to have those trades booked in good time.
Before we arrive
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Ask for a quote
A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Advice
Bespoke kitchens in the City of London: local notes
In the area around the City of London, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 40%) and the years since 2000 (about 27%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. There are 392 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of the City of London. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and kitchens can be designed to work around them. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your street in the City of London joins a main road, it’s worth telling us during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
Close to St Alphage Garden? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. The wider area includes historic houses like Mansion House, about 0.2 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.
The City of London is one of London’s 33 local authority areas. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and the City of London is part of that. We cover places right across the rest of London, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
Design visits and fitting in EC4V, EC1A, EC2M and EC2Y work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Is it time for bespoke kitchens?
People also want a kitchen that’s built to last and can be repainted, which appeals if you are staying put. Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up over the years.
If you recognise any of these, it’s worth talking to us:
- A kitchen planned around your appliances
- Open shelves with cupboards below
- A kitchen finished in your colours
- Room for everything in the kitchen
For a family home near Fashion Retail Academy, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- How they handle walls that aren’t straight
- Will the quote be in writing?
How it is made
Plinths and scribe strips
In a period kitchen, where nothing is quite level, plinths and scribe strips do a lot of quiet work.
Birch plywood
We use birch plywood where strength matters, which matters in drawers and shelves that carry weight. The edge can be left on show or painted.
When is bespoke worth it?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
