Fitted wardrobes across EC4V: what to expect
Fitted wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth. Most enquiries start with mismatched bedroom furniture and no space in front for doors to swing; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote.
- You contact us about fitted wardrobes.
- At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
- We send a written quote.
- The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
- The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
- At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
How our quotes work
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Why homeowners in EC4V choose us

Arranging a design visit
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Fitted wardrobes across EC4V: local notes
If your bedroom in EC4V has a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for storage. Where there isn’t one, fitted wardrobes can run along a full wall instead. Each design is scribed and levelled on site.
About 35% of the homes in the EC4V postcode district went up since 2000, and about 30% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. About 30% of homes in EC4V were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Post-war bedrooms are normally simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, fixed to suit the wall. Around a third of the homes in EC4V (about 35%) were built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Newer homes often have compact bedrooms with plasterboard stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs.
In London, the route into a home matters as much as the room, so we look at both at the design visit.
City of London: If you live in a flat close to London Cannon Street station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. If your home is one of the older houses near St Olave Old Jewry, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.
Is bespoke worth it?
Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors, ready to assemble in the room.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Will the quote be in writing?
- How parking will work on your street
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
Where other trades come in
Before you plan the job, it’s useful to know what we don’t do:
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
- Building work to create a loft room
What prompts fitted wardrobes
Moving home often prompts it. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom, or may not make it up the stairs. Fitted wardrobes are designed for the room you have now.
Some of the things we’re asked to solve are these:
- A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- Standard wardrobes that do not fill the wall
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an tricky room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Looking after your furniture
Getting the most from fitted wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
- Think about where you will keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
- Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
- Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
New paintwork is dry to the touch long before it has fully cured. For the first while, open and close the doors gently.
Spread heavy items rather than piling them in one place. Rails and shelves are planned for normal use, so tell us during the design visit if you need to store something heavy.
Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with long hanging where there is height and shelves or drawers where it’s lower. It turns awkward space into storage.
Do you do plastering or decorating?
No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. The furniture itself is spray painted or hand painted.
What are your fitted wardrobes made from?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF gives a smooth, stable surface for paint; birch plywood is strong and good for shelves and drawer boxes.
What happens when you come to measure?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.
Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?
Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside, in moisture-resistant MDF. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.
What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?
We plan it with you during the design visit, based on what you wear and how much of it there is. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.
