Flat-pack or bespoke?
It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
How we make bespoke kitchens for Earl's Court
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. We plan each space around the appliances you’ve chosen, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. If your home has spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets and a central island in a larger kitchen, that is what kitchens are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
With a large share of homes around Earl's Court built before 1919, a chimney breast often survives in the kitchen, and it can frame a range cooker or a dresser. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and any damp is sorted before cabinets go against it. Other trades handle the plumbing, gas and electrics.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Bespoke kitchens in Earl's Court: local notes
About 72% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Earl's Court went up before 1919, and about 9% between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The centre of Earl's Court is within about a quarter of a mile of the Nevern Square Conservation Area. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Kensington and Chelsea is inside it. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Earl's Court. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.
If your children go to St Cuthbert with St Matthias CofE Primary School or a school nearby, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. If your home is one of the older houses near St Cuthbert's, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Questions we are often asked
I live near West Brompton station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Kensington and Chelsea and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Earl's Court?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.
Can I have a kitchen island?
If the room is big enough, yes. At the design visit we check the clearances around it, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. Check your lease, as we can’t advise on it.
Fitting day, step by step
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so there’s some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit, as terraced streets are often busy.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
- A written quote follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
- We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.
Preparing the room
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
How to get a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Related advice
Why bespoke in Earl's Court?
Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, rather than ordering from a range. What you get is a kitchen planned around how you cook and live. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it can’t tip, and older walls of brick or lath and plaster make that harder than it looks. With fitted pieces, the fixings are planned for the wall from the start.
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. It is useful to talk about parking during the design visit.
Why us?
- Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
- Saturday work by prior arrangement
- Scribed to uneven walls
- A spray or hand-painted finish

Why people ask for bespoke kitchens in Earl's Court
People also want a kitchen that’s built to last and can be repainted, which appeals if you are staying put. Hand painting is simple to touch in or refresh over the years.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- A painted dresser for the kitchen
- Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
- Extra cupboard space
- A kitchen island with room around it
The wider area includes historic houses such as Garden Lodge, about 0.3 miles north-west. If your own home is a period one, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.
Before you choose who makes it
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?

Flats, conversions and lettings
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall.
