Bespoke kitchens in South Kensington
We make kitchens for homes in South Kensington and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and planning the layout, then a quote in writing. The cabinets are built in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If you’re living with a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers and a painted kitchen in a colour you choose, kitchens made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Wall cabinets need firm fixings, and older internal walls can be lath and plaster rather than brick. Since a large share of homes around South Kensington are that old, each wall is checked before deciding where heavy cabinets go. Where a wall will not carry the weight, open shelves or tall floor-standing cupboards can take over.
Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Flats, conversions and lettings
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the measuring visit.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.
From workshop to your room
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Hand painting, if that is your finish, can follow the fitting.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
- We come to measure up and plan the layout with you.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish, for you to read through.
- The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
Before we arrive
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Arranging a design visit
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.

What prompts bespoke kitchens in South Kensington
Flats with awkward kitchen walls are another reason. We can design for a galley, an alcove or a corner, so every run is used.
Requests we hear often include:
- Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
- Open shelves with cupboards below
- A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers
- More storage in a small kitchen
For a family home near Our Lady of Victories RC Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.
What to check before you book
- Real projects you can actually look at
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
Kitchens in South Kensington homes
About 71% of the homes in the neighbourhood around South Kensington went up before 1919, and about 9% between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The National Heritage List has 253 entries within half a mile of the centre of South Kensington. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. All of London, Kensington and Chelsea included, is inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to South Kensington fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.
If you live in a period home close to Chapel of St Luke, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. Close to Burton’s Court? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- How square the room is
- The internal fittings
- The number of doors and drawers
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Helping us understand the room
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote. To book one, use our contact form.

Questions we’re often asked
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in South Kensington?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.
Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?
No. We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we design around where their work goes.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
Do you cover South Kensington?
Yes. We work in South Kensington and across Kensington and Chelsea.
