Questions we’re often asked

Is Earl's Court in the area you cover for TV and media units?

Yes, Earl's Court is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Kensington and Chelsea and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Do you cover homes near West Brompton station?

Yes. We cover all of Kensington and Chelsea and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

How do you hide the TV cables?

We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with access panels for later changes. Where cables reach the wall depends on the sockets, so it is useful to plan sockets with your electrician.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need someone to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Do you move sockets for a TV unit?

Electrical work isn’t something we do. Sockets and wiring are for your electrician, and Part P of the Building Regulations covers some electrical work in homes. We tell you where the unit will sit so the sockets end up in the right place.

How long does it take to fit a TV unit?

The fitting depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The unit is made at our workshop first, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.

TV and media units for homes in Earl's Court

Cables are the part most people want to hide. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. We make TV and media units from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about boxes and consoles on the floor and speakers muffled behind doors.

Victorian and Edwardian houses were built with solid brick outside walls, and internal walls may be brick or lath and plaster. Since a large share of the homes around Earl's Court date from before 1919, we check which you have before deciding how TV and media units are fixed. Lath and plaster needs a lighter touch and the right fixings, particularly behind loaded shelves.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

From workshop to your room

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so there’s some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so let us know about permits and bays at the measuring visit.

  1. You describe the TV wall and your equipment, from set-top boxes to speakers.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout, with ventilation for boxes and amplifiers.
  3. A quote in writing follows. If anything in it is unclear, ask us.
  4. We then make the unit in our workshop.
  5. We bring it to your home and fit it in place.

Advice

Materials and finishes

Birch plywood

For carcasses and drawer boxes, birch plywood is hard-wearing. The edge can be painted or left as a detail.

Hand-painted finish

With hand painting, you judge the colour in your own room. Scribed edges are painted along with the rest.

Pricing TV and media units in Earl's Court

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • How square the room is
  • The internal fittings
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The number of doors and drawers

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.

What to send when you contact us

Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it is useful to send:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Your postcode and the borough

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, use our contact form.

Earl's Court homes and TV and media units

Homes built before 1919 make up about 72% of the housing in the streets around Earl's Court, with about 9% built between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how TV and media units are fixed and fitted. There are 70 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Earl's Court. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. We go through parking and access at the measuring visit.

Close to Gwendwr Garden? Shelving that stops short of the window keeps the view of the green. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Cuthbert and St Matthias, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Living in a block of flats near West Brompton station? Then the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Practical tips

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Book your electrician first if sockets need to move
  • Decide whether the TV will be wall-mounted or stand on the unit
  • Mention parking and stairs when we visit
  • Check where the seating will go

After setting up, check that the boxes aren’t getting too warm. Do not block the gaps and openings left for air with cables or clutter.

Tag each lead at both ends.
