Tips worth knowing

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:

  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Think about how you cook and what you store
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Know your appliance sizes early

New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Go easy on the painted surfaces at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. After that, a soft cloth and mild soapy water is enough.

Damp walls should be dealt with before cabinets are fitted. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, particularly on a colder external wall.

Bespoke kitchens in Parsons Green

We make the cabinets; the worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose. We plan each space around the appliances you’ve chosen, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. If your home has open shelves with cupboards below and a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers, kitchens made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

An older kitchen often has a sash window and a back door, which fix where things can go. With a large share of the homes around Parsons Green built before 1919, the layout is drawn around those fixed points. Your plumber connects the sink where the design puts it. The worktop, sink and appliances are your choice.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

How fitting day works

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and describe the kitchen you want.
  2. At the design visit we plan the kitchen and talk about colours and finish.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. The kitchen is fitted and scribed to the walls, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

Before fitting day

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Flats, leases and landlords

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the design visit.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.

Why bespoke in Parsons Green?

Larders, dressers and tall cupboards are hard to find in standard sizes that suit an older room. Bespoke joinery can be made for the exact space, painted to match the rest of the kitchen. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Tell us about parking at the design visit.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

Kitchens in Parsons Green: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Parsons Green were built before 1919 (about 60%) and since 2000 (about 18%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Part of Parsons Green is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. About 26% of households in the area around Parsons Green live in flats in converted or shared houses, the 2021 Census shows. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it’s worth checking yours first.

Fulham Palace, about 0.8 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. For an older house near St Dionis, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If you live near Parsons Green (park), a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

How do you fit bespoke kitchens in a flat in Parsons Green?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

I live near Imperial Wharf station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

How long will the kitchen take to fit?

It depends on the kitchen. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.
