Bespoke kitchens in Earlsfield

Bespoke kitchens in Earlsfield: what you get

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. We plan each space around the appliances you have chosen, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are an island where space allows and cabinets for a narrow kitchen.

A large share of the homes around Earlsfield were built before 1919, and in a Victorian or Edwardian terrace, the kitchen is often in the narrow rear part of the house. Walls and floors in older houses are rarely true, so cabinets are scribed and levelled on site. The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the kitchen we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Honest limits

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:

  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe engineer
  • Making good walls and ceilings

If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. How it works.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Larders and dressers
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Islands where space allows
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

What it’s made from

Larder and dresser units

Larders and dressers can fill an alcove or end a run in a way standard units cannot.

Plinths and scribe strips

These details are what make a kitchen look built for an older room.

How fitting day works

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturday fitting can be arranged.

  1. You let us know about the kitchen and where it is in your home.
  2. We visit to plan the layout and check how the cabinets will get into the room. Let us know about parking too, as a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.

How to prepare

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

How to get a quote

It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Larders, dressers and tall cupboards are hard to find in standard sizes that suit an older room. Bespoke joinery can be made for the exact space, painted to match the rest of the kitchen. Ready-made tall pieces have to be fixed to the wall for safety, and in an older house that can mean fixing into brick or lath and plaster. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

Questions from Earlsfield

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Earlsfield?

Yes. We cover all of Wandsworth and the rest of London, and Earlsfield is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. To send them, get in touch through our contact form.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?

No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and electrics by your electrician, and we design around where their work goes.

Kitchens in Earlsfield homes

About 65% of the homes in the streets around Earlsfield went up before 1919, and about 12% since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. 4 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Earlsfield. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your street in Earlsfield joins a main road, it’s worth telling us during the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If your home is one of the older houses near St John the Divine, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. For families living near Beatrix Potter Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. Living in a block of flats near Earlsfield station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.
