How we price loft storage

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • The width and height of the space
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What to send when you contact us

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • How you want to use the space
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

To get a quote for loft storage in Earlsfield, drop us a line using the contact form. Tell us which room it is and roughly what you have in mind. We’ll arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.

Loft storage in Earlsfield

The low space behind a knee wall is often the most useful in the room. Cupboards and drawers set into the knee wall make that space useful. Drawers bring the back of the space within reach. At the design visit in Earlsfield, we will see what fits. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a new loft conversion that needs storage and furniture that can’t get up to the loft.

Original features like shutters, cupboard doors and panelling are worth keeping where they survive. Around Earlsfield, where homes from before 1919 make up a large share, new storage can be made to sit beside them rather than replace them. Panel details can be drawn to suit the house, and painted to match. For a listed home, fixing into original joinery can need consent, so check first.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the eaves cupboard we’ve designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Honest limits

We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:

  • Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work
  • Approval for structural changes
  • Any wiring, which needs an electrician

FAQs: loft storage in Earlsfield

I live in a flat in Earlsfield. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Eaves cupboards are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

Is Earlsfield in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes. We cover all of Wandsworth and the rest of London, and Earlsfield is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not typically. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

How much does loft storage cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Drawers in the knee wall normally involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. We set it all out in a written quote.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Earlsfield homes and loft storage

About 65% of the homes in the streets around Earlsfield went up before 1919, and about 12% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 4 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Earlsfield. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The share of homes built before 1919 around Earlsfield, about 65%, is well above the figure for Wandsworth as a whole, about 44%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. So older-house details are more likely to come into the design of eaves cupboards.

Fulham Palace, about 2.3 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. Near listed buildings like Church of St Andrew, under half a mile south of the centre of Earlsfield, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

What happens on fitting day

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so there is some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, as terraced streets are often busy.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. At the design visit we plan the storage and measure the stairs, landings and loft doorway. Tell us about parking too, as a van often needs a permit or a paid bay.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. We build the storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to get up to the loft.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to fit.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Arranging a design visit

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf furniture is made for straight walls and full-height ceilings. In a loft room, standard pieces leave tricky gaps under the slope. Storage made for the loft follows its shape. It costs more than off-the-shelf furniture, and what you gain is the space a standard piece cannot reach. Ready-made tall pieces have to be fixed to the wall for safety, and in an older house that can mean fixing into brick or lath and plaster. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
