How we make bespoke kitchens for Foxbury

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. We plan each space around the appliances you’ve chosen, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. Most enquiries start with a painted kitchen in a colour you choose and a kitchen for a room that isn’t square, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Many post-war kitchens have been opened into the dining room to make one larger space. Many homes around Foxbury were built in the post-war decades. In an opened-up room, the kitchen can be planned to sit well with the dining area, with tall storage at one end. Other trades handle the gas, plumbing and electrics.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Larder and dresser units

Plinths and scribe strips

Scribing is how cabinets meet a wall that is not flat for a close fit.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Foxbury

Is parking a problem for fitting in Foxbury?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Foxbury?

Yes, we work across Bromley, Foxbury included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details.

How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.

Can you build an island in my kitchen?

If the room is big enough, yes. We measure at the measuring visit to check there is room to walk round it and open doors. If it would crowd the kitchen, we’ll say so.

Do you do the plumbing and electrics?

No. We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and electrics by your electrician, and we design around where their work goes.

From workshop to your room

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Post-war homes often have concrete or block walls, so fixings are chosen for the wall on fitting day. We protect floors and doorways as the furniture comes in.

  1. We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made at our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer handle the services.

How to prepare

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Getting a quote

We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Advice

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?

A bespoke kitchen takes more planning than picking units from a range. What you get is a kitchen planned around how you cook and live. Big ready-made pieces can be awkward to carry up communal stairs, while fitted furniture arrives in sections made to fit the route. It is then assembled in the room.

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

What you get with us

  • Edges scribed to follow your walls
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • We visit, measure and discuss the design before we quote

Foxbury homes and bespoke kitchens

Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 30% of the housing in the area around Foxbury, with about 23% built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Foxbury is in the Chislehurst Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Bromley is inside it. Vans bringing furniture to Foxbury fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.

If you live in a flat close to Sidcup station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. For families living near Chislehurst School for Girls, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer. Close to Chislehurst Common? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in Foxbury

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. What affects it comes down to:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Parking near your home
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It is useful to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.

What we need to know

A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

What bespoke kitchens cannot fix

Not everything around bespoke kitchens is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Structural changes to the room
  • Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
  • Any work on the gas supply

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.
