Questions from New Eltham
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in New Eltham?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to New Eltham station?
Yes. We cover all of Greenwich and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room.
Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?
No. We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and electrics by your electrician, and we design around where their work goes.
Is there room for an island in my kitchen?
Where space allows, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we check this at the measuring visit. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can require listed building consent for works that affect their character.
How are bespoke kitchens priced?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, message us from the contact page.
Bespoke kitchens in New Eltham
We make kitchens for homes in New Eltham and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and planning the layout, followed by a quote. Once agreed, the kitchen is built in our workshop and fitted in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Typical reasons to get in touch are extra cupboard space and a central island in a larger kitchen, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
An island needs space around it to work, and not every kitchen has that. Around New Eltham, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, and some of those kitchens have been opened up enough to take one. The space around any island is measured during the design visit, along with where water and power would need to reach. Your plumber and electrician run any services to it.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, its materials and its finish.

What it is made from
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted kitchen can be refreshed over time.
Moisture-resistant MDF
For painted cabinet fronts, moisture-resistant MDF is our usual choice, because it stays flat.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. It is useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.
- You let us know about the kitchen and where it is in your home.
- At the design visit we measure the kitchen and the route in, including stairs, doorways and any lift. Let us know about parking too, as a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension.
- We send a written quote.
- In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
- We carry everything in and fit the cabinets, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics.

Arranging a design visit
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Ready-made units are made to fixed sizes, so most layouts end in a filler panel. Ours are made to fit the room from wall to wall. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Built-in pieces are planned around those fixed points.
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Why us?
- Edges scribed to follow your walls
- Finished by spray or by hand
- 300+ projects completed
- A design visit, then a quote in writing

What it costs
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. What affects it comes down to:
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Spray painting or hand painting
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
Getting in touch

The problems bespoke kitchens solve
In many older homes, ready-made units struggle with lean and slope. Cabinets end up with gaps or tilted lines, while scribed and levelled cabinets keep the lines true.
If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:
- A dresser that suits a period house
- Room for everything in the kitchen
- Making the most of a galley kitchen
- A kitchen finished in your colours
For families living near Wyborne Primary School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
Kitchens in New Eltham homes
In the neighbourhood around New Eltham, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 59%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 22%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of New Eltham is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. In inner London, a large part of the street parking sits inside borough-run controlled parking zones. In New Eltham, a van will typically need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking near your home at the design visit.
Eltham Palace, about 1.1 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.
