Bespoke kitchens in Grove Park, Hounslow

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make bespoke kitchens for homes in Grove Park, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Extra cupboard space
  • A kitchen island with room around it
  • A painted dresser for the kitchen

Homes built before 1919 make up about 43% of the housing in the streets around Grove Park, with about 18% built between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Grove Park is partly covered by the Chiswick House Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. About 43% of homes in the neighbourhood around Grove Park were built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Older houses often have narrow kitchens at the back, with floors that slope, so each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site.

For a family home near Grove Park Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. If you live near Dukes Meadows, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. If your home is one of the older houses near St Paul's Church, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

About our bespoke kitchens in Grove Park

A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe engineer and electrics by your electrician, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. We make kitchens from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a painted dresser for the kitchen and more storage in a small kitchen.

Moving a sink or cooker means moving pipes and cables, which is a job for other trades. Whatever kind of home you have in Grove Park, we plan the layout with that in mind. Any changes to plumbing, electrics or gas are for your plumber, electrician or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Grove Park

Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Grove Park?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Grove Park?

Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London, and Grove Park is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

The furniture is built in sections. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

Do I get to choose the colour?

The choice is yours, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Ready-made units are made to fixed sizes, so most layouts end in a filler panel. Ours are made to fit the room, so the runs can fill the space properly. Standalone furniture leaves gaps behind and above it that gather dust, while fitted pieces are scribed tight to the walls and ceiling.

We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

How fitting day works

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Before fitting day, we check the route in not just the room, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. We cover floors and doorways on the way in.

  1. You contact us about a bespoke kitchen.
  2. At the design visit we plan the kitchen and talk about colours and finish.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the finish agreed.
  4. We make the kitchen in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which suits kitchens and takes paint well, and birch plywood.
  5. The kitchen is fitted and scribed to the walls, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

Before fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Getting a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Related advice

Before and after fitting day

Getting the most from bespoke kitchens starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Know your appliance sizes early
  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Allow space to walk round an island
  • List what needs a home in the kitchen

Hand-painted kitchens are easy to touch up. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth. Keep a note of the paint colours.

Think about how the cabinets will get in. We make the cabinets in sections that fit through the doors and up the stairs, so tell us about tight turns or small lifts.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising at the measuring visit.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease.

What affects the price in Grove Park

Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:

  • How big the furniture is
  • How square the room is
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Parking and unloading on your street

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What we need to know

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • How you want to use the space
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote. To arrange the visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
