About our bespoke kitchens in Hounslow West
Kitchens in period houses bring their own challenges. Walls lean, corners are not square and floors slope, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. We scribe the cabinets to the walls and set them level on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the worktop you choose can sit level. If your home has a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers and a kitchen finished in your colours, kitchens made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.
Knocked-through kitchen-diners in older semis sometimes keep a chimney breast, and the recesses beside it can take a dresser or larder. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Hounslow West, that is a feature worth designing around. Any capped chimney stays ventilated.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How fitting day works
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold.
- We visit to measure and go through the design and storage. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
- A quote follows, covering the design and finish, ready for you to check.
- The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made at our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer handle the services. We do not arrange these trades ourselves.
Before we arrive
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
Starting with a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit. To arrange the visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

The problems bespoke kitchens solve
Kitchens in older homes can be short on cupboard space. Larders, tall cupboards and deep drawers can hold much more than a row of standard wall units.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- Extra cupboard space
- A kitchen island with room around it
- Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
- A larder for food and small appliances
If you live near Hounslow Heath, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.
Choosing a carpenter
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- How parking will work on your street
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Hounslow West
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hounslow station?
Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Hounslow West?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
What happens at the design visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Do I choose the paint colour?
The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Typically not. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character may need listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A small galley and a large kitchen with a larder and island are very different jobs, so we quote once we have measured. To get started, message us from the contact page.
Honest limits
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Plumbing, which is for your plumber
- Knocking through or rebuilding walls
- Plastering, tiling or decorating
Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

- Larders and dressers
Is bespoke worth it?
Larders, dressers and tall cupboards are hard to find in standard sizes that suit an older room. We can build them to fit, painted to match the rest of the kitchen. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.
Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That’s reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.
