Bespoke kitchens in Kings Cross

An island can be a good addition where there is space for one. We check there is comfortable space on every side, and in a narrow kitchen an island can make the room harder to use. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts. Typical reasons to get in touch are cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls and extra cupboard space; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

With most households around Kings Cross in purpose-built flats, mansion blocks and modern blocks are both possible. A mansion block kitchen may have high ceilings and uneven walls, while a newer flat is more likely to have plasterboard walls and boxed-in services. Fixings are chosen for whichever you have.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Is bespoke worth it?

Many off-the-shelf kitchens use chipboard carcasses with a printed or wrapped finish. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, painted in colours you choose, finished to suit the room. Standard furniture doesn’t allow for boxed-in pipes, risers or meter cupboards, leaving gaps or blocking access. Fitted furniture is built around them.

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

Caring for painted furniture

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Deal with damp walls first
  • Think about how the cabinets will get in
  • Let us know how parking works on your street
  • Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first

Use the cooker hood or open a window when cooking, to keep steam off the cabinets. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.

Measure the route into the kitchen along with the room itself. Workshop-made furniture comes in sections sized for stairs, hallways and lifts, so let us know about any narrow spots.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we have measured the way in.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check during the design visit.

Bespoke kitchens in Kings Cross: local notes

About 39% of the homes in the streets around Kings Cross went up before 1919, and about 20% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Within a mile of the centre of Kings Cross, 10 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. A van working in Kings Cross will typically need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.

Near listed buildings like Church of St Pancras, under half a mile south-west of the centre of Kings Cross, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. If you live in a period home close to Holy Cross Church, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. For a family home near Argyle Primary School, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.

Kings Cross is about 1 mile south-east of St Pancras, part of the London Borough of Camden. Whether your home in Kings Cross is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. Kings Cross is one of the places in Camden where we make bespoke kitchens, and the borough has 28 places on our list.

We work across the NW1W, NW1 and N1 postcode area. You’ll find streets here such as Euston Road, Duke's Road and Phoenix Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for bespoke kitchens. Kings Cross sits close to the A501 and A4200, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. We also cover Somers Town (1 mile west), St Pancras (1 mile south-east), Euston (1 mile south-west), Bloomsbury (1 mile south) and Agar Town (1 mile north-west). We also make bespoke kitchens in nearby places like Hampstead (3 miles north-west), West Hampstead (3 miles north-west), Greenhill (3 miles north-west), Chalk Farm (2 miles north-west), Dartmouth Park (2 miles north) and Gospel Oak (2 miles north-west).

Landmarks near Kings Cross

Open spaces near Kings Cross include Ludgate Hill and Barnsbury Wood.

How fitting day works

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a block without a lift, every section goes up the stairs, so it’s sized to be manageable. The stair turns and landings set the limit. The pieces are assembled in the flat.

  1. You let us know about the room and how you use it. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and storage.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician. We don’t arrange these trades ourselves.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

How to get a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Questions we are often asked

I live near London Kings Cross station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Camden and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Kings Cross?

Yes, Kings Cross is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Camden and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

What does a bespoke kitchen cost?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A small galley and a large kitchen with a larder and island are very different jobs, so we quote once we’ve measured. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you.
